AIMI Visual Media produced a 64-second close-up product video for a handheld massage gun aimed at female sports users, filmed outdoors at 1080p, 50fps, on a Canon 5D Mark IV. Calf massage close-ups in slow motion anchor the piece, and delivery took 5 business days.

This was a second massage gun client with a different audience: female sports users, and a brief asking for gentle post-workout relief rather than hardcore power. We set the shoot on an outdoor sports field, with calf-muscle massage close-ups as the core imagery, a woman’s hands, red nail polish kept in frame, holding the product, and a blurred green field with bokeh behind. We recorded at 50fps to leave full slow-motion room in post.

Creative Concept

The same massage gun reads as two different products depending on who it is for. A hardcore power style speaks through venue and physique; a gentle recovery style speaks through detail: nail polish color, a light grip, grass and light spots in the background. The frame holds only the calf, the hands and the product, which stays within e-commerce review limits for personal care content while telling the target user at a glance that this film was made for her. The audience profile was confirmed with the client before the shoot, not on location.

Production

We shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV in high-frame-rate mode at 50fps, so the skin ripples that ring out from the massage head, gone in an instant at 25fps, can be stretched to double length and read clearly. Shutter was locked at 1/100 second to keep the ripples from smearing, and aperture at f/4 so head-to-skin contact stays in focus throughout. Composition leans on medium-close and close-up: the head moving slowly along the muscle, fingers changing gears. Close-up blocks were scheduled inside the most stable 40-minute light window, with wider shots saved for softer light.

Production Challenges

1. Outdoor light was uncontrollable, with cloud cover shifting exposure half a stop in minutes. We reordered the schedule around light windows: all close-up blocks were concentrated into the most stable 40 minutes, exposure parameters were locked with no auto anything, and wider field shots were pushed to the softer-light periods so the 64 seconds hold one consistent light texture.

2. At 50fps, a slow shutter would smear the skin ripples into blur. Shutter was fixed at 1/100 second and aperture stopped to f/4, which freezes the ripple spread while keeping the full contact area between massage head and skin in focus. The slow-motion passages then hold crisp detail when stretched to half speed in the grade.

3. Strangers kept walking through the background of an open sports field. We shot from the field’s edge facing the greenery, so the background collapses into clean blurred blocks of grass and trees. Attention stays on the product-to-skin contact point, and no passersby enter the frame, which also keeps the personal care content comfortably within platform review limits.

Where the Film Lives

The film fits four placements: the usage-demo section of the e-commerce detail page, where close-ups answer what it feels like on the leg; the main-image video slot, where the outdoor green tone stands out among white-background competitors; seeding posts in female sports communities and content channels; and looping screens at offline fairs or stores. For feed ads, compress to 15-30 seconds with the product up front and check the platform’s current rules.

Gendered expression does not need slogans; it lives in details. Nail polish color, a light grip, grass bokeh: the target user knows in one glance this was made for her. Confirm the audience profile before the shoot, not on location. — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

What does shooting at 50fps actually buy you?

Slow-motion headroom. Footage at 50fps stretched to half speed still plays at a smooth 25fps, so the muscle ripples at impact and the massage head’s reciprocating motion can be lengthened and read clearly. Passages that do not need slow motion run at normal speed, at almost no extra cost.

How much does a slow-motion product video like this cost?

Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A scope like this one, covering an outdoor location shoot at high frame rate, a partial model, editing and several deliverable extras, is quoted by brief, so share your product, audience and timeline for an exact figure.

With so many close-ups, can viewers still see the whole product?

Yes. Close-ups carry the usage feel and texture, while medium shots and a final beauty shot cover the full product: the film opens with the whole unit in hand and closes with the gun beside all its massage heads. The close-up to wide ratio was pre-planned for the 64 seconds.

Why keep details like nail polish and bright trainers?

Those details are audience signals. Red nail polish and bright trainers tell female users this film was made for them, more naturally than any caption claiming a women’s product. Identity recognition drives personal care purchases, so keeping these details has a real effect on conversion.

Is outdoor field light hard to control?

Harder than a studio, but manageable. The key is scheduling by light window: close-ups were concentrated into the most stable 40 minutes with locked exposure, and wider shots went to softer-light periods. That is how the 64 seconds hold one consistent light texture throughout.

How fast is delivery, and what do we receive?

Delivery took 5 business days from shoot, with one revision included. You receive the 64-second master, a caption-free clean version for adding your own text, a vertical crop reference guide, and a pack of unused slow-motion clips you can re-use for social content later.

Does close-up skin contact pass e-commerce content review?

The frame only ever contains the calf, the hands and the product, with no other body areas shown, which keeps the film inside mainstream e-commerce review standards for personal care content. For feed ads we still recommend confirming the target platform’s latest policy before placement.

Why shoot a massage gun outdoors instead of in a gym?

The brief targeted female sports users with a gentle recovery tone, not a hardcore power style. An outdoor field gives soft green backgrounds and bokeh that read as calm and lifestyle-led, while the close-ups still carry the force evidence. Venue follows audience, not habit.
