Six frames covering one spin bike platform across three retail colorways: straight side profiles for the listing slots, paired two-bike compositions for range pages, and a composited home-gym lifestyle hero with a model for the campaign end of the set.

The client sold the same belt-drive bike under several color SKUs and needed each one documented identically, plus one lifestyle frame for ads. The brief splits in two: disciplined multi-SKU packshots where the camera never moves, then a separate composite build where the bike is photographed clean and placed into a home interior with a rider.
| Project Overview | |
|---|---|
| Product type | Belt-drive indoor cycling bikes, three colorways |
| Deliverables | Five packshot frames plus one composited lifestyle hero |
| Shoot location | AIMI studio, Guangzhou |
| Styling | Split graphic backdrops for SKUs; digital interior for the hero |
| Usage | Marketplace listings, range pages and paid social |
Photography Challenges
1. Chrome flywheels mirror the whole studio. Every bike carries a polished chrome flywheel that reflects softboxes, stands and the camera itself. Each reflection had to be shaped with flags and white cards so the flywheel reads as bright metal, not as a picture of our lighting rig.
2. Three colorways, one geometry. White, black-red and black-gold bikes share the same frame. The camera stayed locked on a leveled bench while units were swapped and aligned to taped floor marks, so all three profiles overlay pixel-for-pixel and the range page looks like one bike changing color.
3. A lifestyle frame shot without a room. The hero shows a rider in a bright home interior, but the bike and model were photographed on the studio sweep and composited into a licensed interior plate. Perspective, floor shadow and light direction all had to be manufactured in post.
Our Approach
Reflection management on the flywheel
We surrounded the bike with white foam cards and flagged the key light, letting the flywheel pick up a single long highlight. Chrome reads as chrome, and no retoucher had to repaint the wheel afterward.
Bench-locked multi-SKU workflow
Camera height, focal length and floor marks were fixed for the whole session. Each colorway was rolled into the same taped position, leveled to the same handlebar height, and shot in the same light, which is what lets the three SKUs intercut cleanly on a listing page.
Composite planned at capture time
The model and bike were lit to match the target interior plate: key from camera left, soft fill, slight top light. Contact shadows were painted in post and a floor reflection was built from the packshot frames, so the hero sits convincingly in its room.
"Fitness equipment sells on two promises at once: the machine as an object, and the life it fits into. Shoot the object with engineering discipline, then build the life around it deliberately. A lifestyle frame that starts on a clean sweep gives you control no borrowed room can." — Garbo, Director of Photography

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you keep several color variants perfectly consistent?
Yes. The camera is locked on a bench and every unit is aligned to taped floor marks under the same lighting. Colorways swap in and out of an unchanged setup, so the whole range shares one geometry and one light.
Do you shoot lifestyle frames for gym equipment?
We build them as composites: the product and model are photographed in studio and placed into a licensed interior. You get a real room look without location rental, and lighting is matched at capture time so the composite holds up.
How do you handle chrome and glossy parts on fitness gear?
With reflection cards and flags rather than post painting. Polished flywheels and gloss shrouds are surrounded by controlled surfaces so they reflect clean highlights instead of the studio.
A fitness range that needs packshots and campaign frames?
Send the SKU list. We will lock one setup for every colorway and build the lifestyle heroes as controlled composites, all in a single booking.
