The product line is three ready-to-eat staples: plain steamed mantou, golden pan-baked rice balls flecked with seaweed and sesame, and reddish kimchi fried rice balls served on lettuce. The client wanted menu frames plus a small set of campaign alternates, so each rice ball SKU was shot across three background treatments. All 8 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges
1. One product, three backgrounds, one appetite. The same rice ball changes mood on wood, linen and charcoal. The light recipe stays fixed and only the surface changes, so the three treatments read as options for the same dish, not three different dishes.
2. Kimchi red goes rusty fast. The kimchi coating shifts brown under warm light. The key is held neutral at 5500K so the red stays fresh, and the lettuce bed is refreshed between setups.
3. Loose grains need choreography. Scattered rice and chili props look accidental unless each piece is placed. The scatter is composed with tweezers, then locked for the whole series.
Our Approach
Mantou opener.
Frame 01 sets the comfort tone: three plain mantou in a bamboo steamer with a flour dish, eggs and woven bamboo props, warm diffused light from the left.
SKU loops on three sets.
Frames 02-06 run the rice balls through their tests: seaweed balls on warm wood, kimchi balls on light linen, dark wood and charcoal, plus a single-ball hero on a small glossy plate.
Group closers.
Frames 07-08 put both SKUs together: a two-plate group and a top-down flat lay with the kimchi dish, seasoning and rice tray arranged in measured gaps.
Post-production and delivery.
Retouching kept the kimchi red fresh, matched the three background treatments to one grade family, and delivered 2000x2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
"Background tests are not indecision; they are how a menu client buys options. Same light, same dish, three moods, and let their designer pick." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions
How is a multi-set menu shoot priced?
Styled creative frames start at $35 per image under our Growth package, so an 8-frame set runs from $280 including styling and retouching. All rates are starting prices, and the final quote depends on your requirements.
Can you shoot one product on several backgrounds?
Yes. The light recipe is locked and only the surface changes, so each background treatment reads as the same dish in a different mood. Your designer picks from the set.
How long does an 8-frame session take?
This set was delivered in our standard 5-7 business day window: styling tests, one shooting day across the three sets, then retouching and grading.
Do you add white-background versions for delivery platforms?
Yes. Pure white-background frames start from $12 per image under our Essential package, delivered at 2000x2000px sRGB with a full commercial license.
