Bread&Button opened a new store, and the client asked for more than a record of the day: they wanted the crowd energy kept. An opening’s value lasts one day, but a video lets that heat keep working online. We followed the complete flow, guests arriving, speeches and sharing, the raised glass congratulations, the full group photo. The direction we set was simple: the crowd is the star of an opening film. A process log of sign in, ribbon, photo leaves viewers with nothing; faces and reactions are what carry it.

Creative Concept
The lens stays on people, not procedure. Three emotional anchors structure the film: the guest’s expression at the microphone, the smile as the bouquet reaches the owner’s hands, and the noise of twenty plus people packing into the group photo. Together they act out the message that this store has a crowd, has content, and is worth visiting; the process record completes itself along the way. The Bread&Button mark rides the corner of the frame from first shot to last, so every share carries the brand.
Production
The store is decorated in warm tones, and our lighting rule was to use that, not fight it: pendant lamps and candlelight serve as ready made ambient, with color temperature unified warm so the picture keeps its friendliness. Speeches were caught with a medium telephoto from the crowd’s edge so sightlines stayed clear; bouquet and group photo positions were claimed in advance, a frontal angle for the complete record and a side angle for expression close ups. The interior runs dim, so wide aperture lenses with moderate high ISO balanced image quality against shutter speed. Dual camera coverage ran through the event.
Production Challenges
1. The event schedule could not be scripted. Nobody controls when a speech ends or when twenty people gather for a photo. We split the dual camera crew by duty: one camera rolls uninterrupted through the whole flow so no material is missed, while the second hunts close ups and reaction shots so the finished film has drama, not just coverage.
2. Mixed color temperatures fought the warm look. Pendant lamps, candlelight and daylight through the windows all sit at different color temperatures. Before rolling we set a custom white balance off a gray card, which unified the tone across the entire film and kept the warm atmosphere consistent from speeches to the final group photo.
3. Coverage had to keep a polite distance. The guests are the protagonists of an opening, not the camera. Working with medium telephoto lenses from the room’s edge, we caught genuine expressions without intruding on the event; a photographer visible at the frame’s edge makes every smile stiffen, so staying unseen is part of the craft.

Where the Film Lives
The film’s first stop is the store’s own account matrix: WeChat official account posts, review platform photo albums, and the short video account’s opening content. Guests share it inside customer communities and second spread comes free when attendees spot themselves. Later it anchors membership events and anniversary recaps, and when the brand courts franchisees or new sites, the film is direct proof of opening day pull. One shoot’s material covers a store’s content needs for a full year.
An opening film banks one day of heat as a year of material. The metric that matters is emotional density, not process completeness, and the crew’s job is to stay invisible: long lens, anticipation, no stiff smiles. - Garbo — Garbo, Director of Photography
Frequently Asked Questions
Should the event flow be communicated in advance?
Yes. Before shooting we take the day’s run sheet: when guests arrive, when speeches start, where the group photo happens, and we plan positions and movement routes from it. This film’s speech, bouquet and group photo passages were all caught from positions claimed ahead; if the flow shifts on the day, we adjust on site.
Can you deliver a quick cut on the day itself?
Yes, it can be arranged. Openings reward speed, so a 30 second to 1 minute quick cut can go out that evening for the store’s accounts, with the full version finished on the normal schedule. Quick cuts require live material marking during the shoot, and the service is itemized separately at booking.
How is opening event coverage priced?
Each event is quoted per project, itemized from your brief, via the contact page. Coverage hours, camera count and post production requirements set the workload, and bundling the opening with later event or store visit films prices better than commissioning them one by one.
What is the turnaround?
This 3:40 opening film ran 7 business days from shoot to delivery. Rush scheduling down to 48 hours is possible, but openings have natural timeliness, so we more often recommend booking the same day quick cut and letting the full edit run its normal course; weekend slots should be locked at least a week ahead.
Can you shoot photos at the same time?
Yes. In the gaps between video setups the crew shoots stills from the same positions and light: flower baskets, the store environment, guest group photos. One session yields both video and photo material. What to avoid is direct on camera flash, which flattens the venue’s lighting atmosphere and looks cheap.
How do you guarantee speech audio?
Speeches are recorded on wireless lavalier or boom microphones, with camera audio kept as reference only; the clear guest voices in this film come from that independent recording. In post we apply noise reduction and level balancing, ducking background music under speech, and a copy of the script from the host makes captions more accurate.
How do you fit twenty plus people in one group photo?
We scout the spot and fix the position before the moment: a wide lens from a slightly raised angle, two staggered rows, back row standing and front row seated so every face shows. A burst of frames guards against closed eyes, and the best all round frame becomes the film’s closing hold.
Can we work remotely if we are not in Guangzhou?
Completely. The run sheet and floor plan come to us online, the shooting plan confirms online, and the film delivers by cloud drive with timecoded review links for second exact notes. The crew travels from Guangzhou with travel billed as incurred, and multi city chains can be covered store by store in one consistent style.
What else can the footage do after opening day?
Opening material is a library: membership days, anniversaries and product launches can all cut recap passages from it; franchise brochures use the crowd footage as evidence; the owner’s speech feeds personal accounts. This 3:40 master plus the stills covers a new store’s content needs for a year, so we advise archiving everything.
