AIMI Visual Media produced a function demonstration video for a white-body high-frequency ultrasonic massager, making the invisible ultrasonic energy visible through a water-cup experiment. The 2 min 16 s master runs 1920×1080 horizontal, shot in a black-background lab-style studio, delivered in 5-7 business days.

The client brought us a white-body massager built around high-frequency ultrasonic energy, and their concern was practical: shoppers cannot see ultrasound, so product photos alone never explain the value. We proposed a lab-style demonstration film on a pure black set, with a transparent water cup placed over the metal probe so the energy turns into visible bubbles and turbulence. Our team drafted the demo script, and the client checked every technical claim for accuracy before the shoot.

Creative Concept

Functional devices fail on screen when they look attractive but explain nothing. Our rule for this category is that every film needs at least one real, visible experiment, and for ultrasound that meant liquid. A clear cup of water over the probe translates an abstract spec into bubbling motion that any shopper reads in seconds. We placed the experiment in the middle of the film, after the exterior and component shots, so viewers meet the product first and watch the demo with context. That order keeps comprehension cost low, which matters on detail pages where attention is short.

Production

We shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV with a macro lens, working at a locked 5500K color temperature across the whole set. The key light was a softbox positioned high and to the side, which opened up the highlight gradation on the white housing; the background light was killed completely so the black stayed pure. A narrow rim light carved the body away from the backdrop. For the water-cup sequence we added a low-power strip light directly behind the glass, because transparent liquid does not reflect light and the backlight had to pass through the fluid to light the bubbles. Hands entered frame in white gloves, and we flagged them down half a stop so glove and housing never merged.

Production Challenges

1. The bubbles were never controllable. The liquid turbulence under ultrasonic energy takes a different shape on every run, so a single good take is luck. We shot more than twenty passes at over thirty seconds each, then picked the three fullest bubble formations in the edit. Volume, rather than luck, is what made the hero shot reliable.

2. The water surface reflected the whole studio. The rim of the cup mirrored lamps and equipment straight into the frame. We rigged a flag above the cup so that just the intended backlight angle could reach the liquid, and every stray reflection was blocked. The surface stayed clean without touching the lighting design.

3. The metal probe kept blowing out. A thin metal rod reads as a detail-free white line under a hard key. We swapped the key for a strip softbox, which stretched the highlight along the rod into an even band. The probe kept its metallic texture instead of clipping to dead white.

Where the Film Lives

The full 2 min 16 s version carries the e-commerce detail page and the brand website product page, where the principle needs to be explained in full. The experiment segment stands alone as short-video material for Douyin and WeChat Channels at 15-30 seconds, and the rising bubbles hold attention on their own. For cross-border placements we advise re-captioning the principle text per market and checking each platform’s current ad-compliance rules on absolute claims. Stills pull cleanly from the black-background footage for detail pages, exhibition screens, and dealer materials.

An experiment faked in post reads fake on screen. Twenty honest cups of water beat one rendered effect, because shoppers trust physics they recognize. Signed June, Product Photography Team Lead. — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How does AIMI price a function demo video for a massager or beauty device?

Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A scope like this project, which shipped a full film, a caption-free version, and standalone segment clips from a scripted experiment, is quoted by brief. Send product details and the key function, and our team returns an itemized quote.

How long does a project like this take?

This massager film was delivered in 5-7 business days, our standard window for function demo work: script first, one studio day for the experiment and product passes, then editing, grading, and caption packaging. More complex experiment designs extend the script stage, so we confirm timing after reading your brief.

Can an invisible function like ultrasound really be filmed?

Yes. We place a transparent water cup over the metal probe and let the high-frequency energy work on the liquid. Bubbles and turbulence rise instantly, and a macro lens close to the cup wall records every detail. The experiment is real, with no fabricated post effects.

Who writes the demonstration script?

We draft the demo script in-house, including how the experiment is staged and what the explainer captions say. The client’s role is verification: every technical statement about the product is checked by their team before the shoot, so the film stays accurate as well as watchable.

Is the experiment footage real or made in post?

Real. The bubbles come from the device working on actual liquid, filmed over more than twenty takes so we can select the fullest formations. Post-production handles edit, grade, and captions. A staged real experiment holds shopper trust far better than a rendered simulation.

What exactly is delivered?

You receive the complete 2 min 16 s master, a caption-free clean version for re-captioning or international markets, and each segment as a standalone clip: exterior, probe and control panel details, the water-cup experiment, and the usage scene. All files are 1920×1080 horizontal masters.

Where can this film run?

The full version fits e-commerce detail pages and the brand website product page. The experiment segment cuts down naturally to 15-30 second clips for Douyin and WeChat Channels. For cross-border use we advise localized captions and a check of each target platform’s current compliance rules.

Why shoot a white product on a black background?

The black lab-style set suits technology products: it kills distraction and lets backlight make the liquid experiment readable. The risk is a white body dissolving into the dark, so a narrow rim light traces the housing edge and the background light is fully suppressed.

Can stills be pulled from this footage?

Yes. The black-background experiment frames match the tone of standard white-background product images, so clients can lift stills for detail-page visuals, exhibition screens, and dealer materials. The 1080P master is clean enough for these uses, which stretches one shoot across several assets.
