AIMI Visual Media produced a 5 min 48 s function demo video for a children’s electric ride-on car, a red-interior open-top roadster, filmed on a closed private road. Shot at 1280x720 on Canon 5D4 with an action camera for first-person driving views, the chaptered film covers looks, controls, and real driving, delivered in 7 to 10 business days.

The client needed a long video for e-commerce detail pages that explains the whole vehicle: full exterior, cockpit detail, and real on-road driving. Pictures can show the shape of a toy car, but only video answers whether it runs and what driving it looks like, which is exactly what parents ask before buying. We chose an empty closed campus road and added a first-person driving perspective so the running state is documented, not described.

Creative Concept

A ride-on car is a considered purchase, so the film is organized as five chapters: exterior walkaround, cockpit, start and controls, road driving, and closing. Each chapter owns one theme, so parents can watch by section without fatigue. The memorable image is the driver-seat POV over the red dashboard, which drops the viewer straight into the feeling of driving the car; slow speed and a level road keep that shot immersive instead of nauseating.

Production

We scheduled an overcast window before 10 a.m., when cloud cover works like a giant softbox and keeps the contrast between the red interior and black steering wheel from blowing out; white balance was locked with a grey card at 5500K. The exterior section circles the car on foot, while driving sections alternate follow shots with locked positions. The POV rig mounts an action camera on a headrest bracket with a suction cup plus a safety tether, shot across multiple low-speed passes to pick the steadiest. Post added chapter editing, stabilization, and subtitle packaging.

Production Challenges

1. Red plastic shifts orange under direct sun. Saturated plastic is the first casualty of hard sunlight, so we waited for overcast windows, locked white balance on set with a grey card, and kept the grade to a light restoration pass. Test stills went to the client for color approval before the main shoot, preventing a full reshoot later.

2. POV footage shakes on a hard-suspension toy. Ride-on cars have stiff suspension, and small road bumps translate straight into lens jumps. We held the car at its lowest speed, chose the flattest stretch of road, and ran a stabilization pass in post, which brought the shake into an acceptable range without killing the sense of motion.

3. Long videos drift into a feature list without structure. At nearly six minutes with many function points, an unchaptered film becomes a running ledger. The script split the film into five themed chapters before any shooting, so every setup knew its section and the final piece plays as a guided tour rather than a parts inventory.

Where the Film Lives

The long film anchors the explainer slot on JD, Tmall, and independent-site detail pages, where parents finish it with few questions left for customer service. Chapter clips split out as seeding content for Douyin and WeChat Channels, and the first-person driving section is a natural short-video performer. For cross-border placement we suggest replaceable multi-language subtitles, with Amazon’s main-video rules checked first; 720P covers detail pages and social, while big-screen or trade show use calls for a 1080P or 4K brief at booking.

A functional toy film must answer three questions: what it looks like, how it plays, and how it runs. Miss one and conversion pays for it. For big-ticket toys, completeness beats flash every time. — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a toy car function video cost?

Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A long-form demo like this, with an exterior location, a POV rig, and chapter deliverables, is quoted by brief scope. Send us the product count and target sales platforms, and we return an itemized quote the same day.

Do kids products need child models on camera?

Not necessarily. This film used no model at all: empty shots and the first-person view carried the full function story. If you want a child driving on camera, we arrange child models with guardian accompaniment and on-set safety positions through an established process, quoted separately and confirmed at script stage.

How is location safety managed?

The location was a closed campus road with no public traffic. We cleared the area before rolling and posted staff at both ends of the driving route. The car runs at low speed, and the POV rig is fixed with a suction cup plus a safety tether; the safety plan ships with the storyboards for your approval.

Is 5 min 48 s too long for a product video?

The film is a detail-page explainer, and parents weigh big-ticket toys carefully enough to finish it. Chapters keep the information lean. If bounce rate worries you, the delivery includes the chapter-split version, and we can cut a separate 30 to 60 second highlight short for the first screen.

Is 720P sharp enough?

For detail pages and mobile social playback, 720P is fully sufficient, and the smaller file loads faster, which helps page speed. If you plan trade show screens, TV, or high-definition website display, tell us at kickoff and we shoot 1080P or 4K so the source material covers everything in one pass.

Will the red interior shift color on camera?

No. High-saturation plastics shift easily, so we lock 5500K color temperature, calibrate with a grey card on set, avoid midday direct sun, and keep the grade to restoration only. A test shot goes to you for color confirmation before principal filming, which prevents batch-level rework.

Can multiple color options shoot together?

Yes. The standard approach films the full function piece on the hero color, then shoots only exterior and key details for the other colors, cutting them as replaceable sections so each color gets its own version. This costs far less than a full film per color; tell us the color count when quoting.

Do we provide the car and the location?

You ship the sample car to the studio or location; venues are on us: our own studio for indoor work and a long-term partner’s closed campus for exteriors. If you have your own scenes such as a factory or store, we shoot on-site with travel billed at cost, confirmed at script stage.

Who writes the function narration?

We do. At script stage we draft the chapter structure and subtitle copy from your selling points, and you only verify the function parameters. For toy films we recommend information-dense subtitles with minimal voiceover, so parents watching muted still understand; professional voice recording can be added per film.

How long does a function demo like this take?

Delivery for this long-form demo runs 7 to 10 business days, with the location shoot scheduled around weather windows. Rush scheduling and costs are confirmed with our team; share your launch date at kickoff and we plan the scout and shoot days backwards from it.
