A lighting brand asked for a promo film for its windproof outdoor candle lantern, staged in a real garden at night: the bronze metal mesh lantern on a stone plinth, candle warmth spilling through the diamond lattice onto hydrangeas and broad-leaf plants, under the tagline “Make the night warm.” The film targets the e-commerce detail page and social placement, including cross-border platforms where the English line works unchanged.

Creative Concept
Ambience lighting sells emotion, not lumens, so the strategy was single source in the dark plus a natural scene. Deep night garden, everything black except the lantern’s warm orange glow, lattice shadows falling on petals and stone, and the viewer completes the thought alone: my courtyard needs a lamp like this. The English tagline “Make the night warm” closes the idea and points the film squarely at cross-border and mid-to-high-end home buyers, where one line of copy has to travel without adaptation.
Production
We shot on location in an outdoor garden deep into the night, the lantern on a low stone plinth ringed by hydrangeas and broad-leaf plants. The camera was a Sony A7S3 with the FE 35mm F1.4 GM at 1080p 25fps, the wide F1.4 aperture carrying the very low light. The lantern’s electronic candle served as the key source; an Aputure MC behind the plants added a faint cool rim, building a warm-cool contrast, CRI 97 or higher. Camera movement stayed low and slow, push-ins and orbits on a DJI RS 3 so the night footage moves without shake.
Production Challenges
1. Dead-black surroundings under a single candle source. An LED panel at the moon position laid down ambient base at under one tenth of the candle’s level, and DaVinci Resolve lifted the shadow regions selectively in the grade. Plant outlines stay readable without breaking the night mood, which is the whole illusion the film sells.
2. Electronic candle flicker fighting the shutter. We tested the candle unit’s flicker frequency before rolling and locked the shutter at 1/50 to synchronize with it. Every take was replayed on set to check flame stability, and any take with visible strobing was reshot on the spot rather than patched in post.
3. Metal lattice reflecting crew and gear. Camera and lamp positions were worked out from the reflection angles before the first take, and a black flag in front of the lens blocked stray reflections off the mesh. The warm light passing through the lattice stays the dominant visual, with no equipment ghosts inside it.

Where the Film Lives
The 44-second landscape master runs on the flagship store detail page first screen, the website’s outdoor lighting channel page, cross-border marketplaces and independent stores where the English tagline works as is, and home fair booth screens. The 30-second vertical cut feeds Douyin in-feed ads, WeChat Channels promotion, and overseas social placements. Atmosphere frames were also pulled as detail page scene images and posters.
Ambience filming is a discipline of restrained fill: one notch too much and the night looks fake, one too little and the frame turns to mud. The sweet spot sits near a tenth of the key source. And always meter the flicker of electronic candles before choosing a shutter. — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a lighting product video take?
Here, script and scene confirmation took 2 business days, the night exterior shoot took one night, and edit plus color took 4 business days, totaling 7 business days. Night shoots depend on weather, so the schedule keeps buffer for a possible postponement.
How much does a lighting promo video cost?
Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A multi-deliverable scope like this project, with the master film plus vertical cuts and pulled still frames, is quoted by brief. Share your product, platform plan, and version count and we will send a written quote.
Will the product be hard to see at night?
No. The product’s own light source, candle or LED, is the natural focus of the frame, and faint fill traces the metal body’s outline, so viewers read both the craftsmanship and the lit effect. We test source flicker and illumination levels before every night shoot to secure the result.
What if weather ruins the night shoot?
We check the 72-hour forecast and hold a backup shooting night. If rain or strong wind hits, we reschedule or move indoors and simulate the night garden in studio with artificial plants and black backdrop. Both contingency plans are confirmed with the client at the script stage.
Can you shoot in our garden or project site?
Yes. Courtyards, terraces, campsites, and scenic areas can all serve as real locations for this kind of ambience film. Tell us the site when you brief us and we will plan the shoot around the space, with weather contingencies confirmed at the script stage.
How do you stop electronic candles from strobing on camera?
Every flame unit has a flicker frequency, and the fix is measurement, not luck. We test the source before rolling, lock the shutter at 1/50 to synchronize with its cycle, and replay each take on set to confirm flame stability before moving on.
Why add cool fill behind the plants?
The lantern’s glow is warm orange, and a faint cool rim from behind the foliage separates leaves and petals from the black garden. That warm-cool contrast gives the frame depth while keeping the candle as the emotional center, at a level well below the key source.
How much fill light is too much at night?
Our working rule from this shoot: keep ambient fill near one tenth of the key source’s level. More than that and the night reads artificial; less and shadow detail collapses. The grade then lifts shadow regions selectively so plants stay readable inside a believable darkness.
Which platforms does this film fit?
The landscape master fits detail pages, brand website channel pages, cross-border marketplaces and independent stores, and booth screens. The 30-second vertical cut covers Douyin, WeChat Channels, and overseas social placements, and pulled atmosphere frames serve detail page scenes and posters.
