AIMI Visual Media produced a function demonstration video for a returning fitness equipment client’s multi-function trainer with a free pulley cable system. The 86-second master runs 1920x1080 Full HD at 25fps in 16:9, shot on a real gym set with a female model, delivered in 5 business days with one revision.

This was the client’s second film with us, and the subject stepped up to a full multi-function trainer: rack uprights, a free pulley cable system, pull-bar attachments, and a bench. The brief kept the pairing narrative from the barbell film, but the selling point went deeper into the flexibility of the free pulley module. We structured the film as rack, pulley, attachments, then combination, breaking one large machine into modules a buyer can actually understand, each with its own shot group and subtitle board.

Creative Concept

Big machines intimidate as a whole, so we decomposed this one. Everyone can see a trainer is large; what buyers need is what it specifically does. Each module gets roughly twenty seconds: the rack’s structure, the pulley’s range of travel, the quick swap of pull bars and handles, and combination work with the bench, ending on the model’s seated row so human scale grounds the machine’s size. The information reads like a manual, but everything moves: cable travel, smooth glide, and fast attachment changes are demonstrated, not described.

Production

Smooth and free had to become pictures. We recorded the cable’s path inside the pulley groove in tight close-up and matched the pull with constant-speed camera moves, so a zero-stutter glide becomes the evidence for smoothness. Freedom came from one-take attachment swaps, pull bar, handles, bench position, rehearsed until the operator could run the flow in a single pass without cuts. The Canon 5D Mark IV with a wide-angle lens covered the full machine from pulled-back positions, and side-backlight rimmed each black upright so the frame’s layers stay separated.

Production Challenges

1. The trainer is too large for normal framing positions. We combined the wide-angle lens with pulled-back camera positions, and when one pass could not cover the whole machine we ran a two-segment stitched move, joined invisibly in post. The machine entered the set a day early for assembly, so the shoot day went entirely to camera work.

2. Stacked black uprights merge into one dark mass. Side-backlight rimmed every upright individually, so foreground and background columns separate in the light and the frame’s structure stays readable. Metal reflection points were kept as texture cues rather than flagged off; dark metal equipment lighting is a mature plan for our team.

3. Attachment swaps lose credibility if they are edited. Quick-release convenience is a core selling point, so every swap runs as a single unbroken take. We rehearsed the changeover flow with the operator until one pass succeeded, no cutting, because a stitched-together fast swap convinces nobody and one real demonstration settles the question.

Where the Film Lives

This modular explainer fits four placements: the function-breakdown section of e-commerce detail pages, answering what this machine can train; recruitment material for dealers and gym procurement, where big-ticket buyers weight information completeness; equipment reviews and seeding on content channels; and demo screens in offline showrooms. Trainers carry high prices and long decision chains, so clearer information means better inquiries; produce cutdowns to each channel’s duration norms before launch.

The more complex the machine, the more the film should behave like a manual: module by module, real demos, no staged shortcuts. Equipment buyers forgive nothing; one exposed fake undoes every ounce of trust you built before it. — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

Can your studio even fit a machine this size?

Yes. Our gym set reserves space for large equipment like trainers and Smith machines, with access for positioning. The wide-angle lens plus pulled-back positions covers full-machine views and local detail. The machine arrives a day early for assembly; the shoot day is all camera work.

How do you photograph the smoothness of a free pulley?

Two tools: tight close-ups record the cable traveling in the pulley groove at even speed, where zero stutter is the direct evidence; constant-speed camera moves match the model’s pull to reinforce the fluid feel. This kind of claim needs dynamic demonstration; stills cannot carry it.

Are the attachment swap demos real?

Yes, and each runs as one unbroken take. The quick-release changeover was rehearsed with the operator until a single pass worked, no editing. Swap convenience is a core selling point of this system; a pieced-together fast swap has no persuasive power, only a real demonstration is credible.

Will the black frame turn into a black blob on screen?

No. Each upright gets its own side-backlight rim, separating foreground and background columns in the light, and metal reflections stay as texture detail. Lighting dark metal equipment is a mature plan for us; the machine’s structure reads clearly in the finished picture.

How many function points can 1 min 26 s cover?

Four modules, rack, pulley, attachments, combination, at roughly twenty seconds each, covering all core functions. Finer per-movement content can become a separate action-library series of short films: the main film explains the system, the series expands the detail.

How is a large-equipment function video priced?

Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A large-equipment function film with set and model is quoted against your brief: machine list, modules covered, and deliverables. Filming it in the same window as the accessory series keeps unit costs down.

Is the model fee included?

Model cost is calculated separately by type and duration, with candidates confirmed from comp cards. This film shared one model and one shooting window with the barbell bar film, so the model cost effectively occurred once across both, which is where series shooting pays off.

How long does production take?

This project ran 5 business days from shoot to delivery, including one revision round. Rush scheduling down to 48 hours can be coordinated; it shifts set bookings and post resources, so contact us and we will confirm a timeline we can honestly commit to.

Will the functional claims in the video be exaggerated?

No. Load range, material specs, and the attachment list all follow the product’s actual configuration, and subtitle copy goes on screen only after client confirmation. Truthfulness is the baseline for function demonstration content; re-check wording against target platform rules before launch.
