AIMI Visual Media photographed a four-frame street editorial of embroidered satin souvenir bomber jackets: a navy-and-white sukajan with denim shorts, a crane-embroidered bomber with matching mini skirt, and coordinated sets on sunlit European-style streets. The 4 delivered images carry a full commercial license.

The client was a streetwear seller whose line is built on embroidered satin souvenir jackets: a navy-and-white sukajan styled with denim shorts, a zip-up baseball bomber, and a crane-embroidered bomber with a matching crane-embroidered denim mini skirt. Satin embroidery belongs in the sun, so we shot the series on European-style city streets, old brick facades, zebra crossings, colonial-style corners, in bright warm daylight with shallow depth of field. Four frames, one model, delivered with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges
1. Satin is a mirror, embroidery is a texture, and they share a jacket The satin body wants soft angled light so its sheen stays a glow instead of a glare, while the embroidered cranes and lettering want raking light so every stitched thread reads. We shot with the sun at a side-back angle: the satin catches a rim of sheen along the sleeve and shoulder while the embroidery on the chest and back is lit across its surface, not straight into it. Both materials get their moment in the same frame.
2. Busy streets versus a jacket that is already loud Embroidered souvenir jackets are maximalist product, and a working city street adds signage, pedestrians, and parked cars to the noise. We shot at f/2-2.8 on a short-tele lens so the street melts into warm color blocks behind the model, and timed frames for gaps in foot traffic. The street reads as a place, not as a crowd.
3. Matching sets must show both pieces without catalog stiffness The crane bomber and the crane denim mini are sold as a coordinated set, and buyers need to read the matching embroidery in one glance. We framed three-quarter crops that hold jacket and skirt in the same focal plane, and had the model walk and turn rather than stand at attention. The pairing reads as a set, worn like a person, not pinned like a specimen.
4. Four frames in changing midday sun Street shooting means the light keeps moving, and satin's glare angle changes with it. We walked the route with the sun, brick facade first while it was side-lit, crossing next as the angle opened, colonial corner last for the warm rim, re-checking the jacket's sheen at each stop. The series keeps one warm daylight voice across three different corners.
Our Approach
Lighting
Position: sun at side-back angle so satin catches a rim of sheen while embroidery is lit across its surface, no fill added. Settings: exposure set for the jacket's sheen, background allowed to sit warm and bright. Why: souvenir satin lives on its glow, and the glow only survives when the sun works from behind the shoulder instead of into the lens.
Camera and exposure
Canon EOS R5, RF 85mm f/1.4L at f/2-2.8 for the three-quarter frames, RF 50mm f/1.2L for the full-length crossing frame, ISO 100-200, 1/500-1/1600s. Why: the 85mm melts busy streets into warm color blocks while keeping every embroidered thread sharp on the jacket.
Set and series
One walking route through three European-style corners, brick facade, zebra crossing, colonial corner, matched to the sun's movement across one afternoon. Why: a route planned against the sun is how four frames across three locations keep one consistent warm-street voice.
"Embroidery is thread drawing, and thread only draws when light rakes across it: hit it flat and the cranes flatten into print, rim the satin while you rake the stitchwork and the whole jacket comes alive. Light direction is a compositional choice, and that choice is how our photography team shoots every texture-loud garment." — Garbo, Senior Photographer

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a four-frame street editorial cost?
On-model location photography starts at $35 per image under the Growth tier, so a 4-image series like this one starts around $140, with model fees quoted separately. All rates are starting prices; our 2026 pricing guide breaks down the tiers.
How do you photograph satin jackets without glare?
Put the sun behind the shoulder. In this series the side-back sun gives the satin a rim of sheen along the sleeve and shoulder while the embroidery is lit across its surface, so the jacket glows without throwing glare into the lens. Front sun on satin is how you get a white jacket with no embroidery.
Can embroidered matching sets be shot to show both pieces?
Yes, in three-quarter framings that hold jacket and skirt in one focal plane. The crane-embroidered set in this series was shot walking and turning, so buyers read the matching embroidery across both pieces in one glance, worn like a person, not pinned like a specimen.
How do you keep busy streets from fighting a loud jacket?
Aperture and timing. We shot at f/2-2.8 on an 85mm so signage and pedestrians melt into warm color blocks, and waited for gaps in foot traffic. The street stays a place; the jacket stays the loudest thing in it.
How long does a street editorial like this take?
These 4 images were delivered in 3 business days: one afternoon across three street corners, same-day culling, then two days of retouching. The route was walked against the sun's movement, which is why the series keeps one warm daylight voice.
Do you need permits for street shooting?
For a small crew with handheld cameras on public sidewalks, like this route, no permit is needed. We keep the footprint small, do not block walkways, and choose corners with light foot traffic at scouting time.
Do street frames work for marketplace listings?
Yes. The full commercial license covers store, marketplace, and advertising use. The three-quarter frames keep the embroidery sharp and legible, and we deliver high-resolution masters plus web-ready crops for each listing slot.
Embroidered jackets that need real sun to glow?
