The client was a womenswear seller listing a baroque floral two-piece, a short-sleeve top and fitted skirt with a wide striped waistband, a print with real drama that deserves a setting with some wild in it. We shot the pair in an overgrown garden outside Guangzhou: the model leaning into an ivy-covered trunk, dense foliage closing around her, warm sun breaking through in patches. Two frames, one model, delivered with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges
1. Baroque print inside a baroque location A swirling floral two-piece inside dense foliage is maximalism squared, and the outfit can dissolve into the greenery completely. We staged the model against the vertical order of the tree trunks instead of the leaf chaos, shot at f/2.8 so the foliage melts around her, and let the print's dark ground separate from the garden's mid-green. The outfit stays the most organized pattern in the frame.
2. Dappled light is free and treacherous Sun through tree cover throws coin-sized highlights that land wherever they want, and one on the forehead or the print's focal flower ruins the frame. We positioned the model in a patch of even open shade, then let the dappled coins fall in the background where they read as atmosphere. The light looks wild; its placement is anything but.
Our Approach
Lighting
Position: model in even open shade against the trunks, sun patches kept in the background, no artificial fill. Settings: exposure metered for the outfit in shade, background allowed to sparkle. Why: dappled sun is a background effect, not a key light, and treating it that way is what keeps the print readable.
Camera and exposure
Canon EOS R5, RF 85mm f/1.4L at f/2.8 for both frames, ISO 100-400, 1/250-1/500s. Why: the 85mm compresses the woodland into a soft green wall while keeping the two-piece's print and waistband sharp.
Set and series
One garden corner, two framings, the ivy-trunk lean and a standing frame deeper in the foliage. Why: two frames from one scouted corner give the listing an editorial pair without a location move.
"A maximalist print does not need a quiet room, it needs an organized one: trunks for verticals, shade for the fabric, chaos kept strictly in the background. That is the difference between a print getting lost in the woods and owning them, and it is how our photography team shoots every statement pattern." — Garbo, Senior Photographer

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a two-frame garden editorial cost?
On-model location photography starts at $35 per image under the Growth tier, so a 2-image series like this one starts around $70, with model fees quoted separately. All rates are starting prices; our 2026 pricing guide explains the tiers.
How do you keep a bold print from disappearing into foliage?
Stage against order, not chaos. The model works against the tree trunks' vertical lines, we shoot at f/2.8 so the leaves melt, and the print's dark ground separates from the garden's mid-green. The outfit stays the most organized pattern in the frame.
How do you use dappled forest light without it ruining faces?
We do not let it be the key. The model stands in even open shade while the sun coins fall in the background, where they read as atmosphere. Dappled light is a background effect; the moment it lands on a forehead or the print's focal flower, the frame is gone.
Is a woodland shoot practical for a small two-frame order?
Yes, when the corner is scouted in advance. This pair came from one scouted garden corner with two framings, no location moves, no permit, shot in about an hour. Scouting is what makes small location orders affordable.
How fast does a garden editorial pair deliver?
These 2 images were delivered in 2 business days: a short location session, same-day culling, one day of retouching.
Do garden editorial frames work for marketplaces?
Yes. The full commercial license covers store, marketplace, and advertising use, and the print stays zoom-legible in both frames. We deliver high-resolution masters plus web-ready crops for each listing slot.
