The product is a 500ml premium baijiu in a deep red bottle with calligraphy branding and a heavy textured gold cap, sold with a hinged red and gold gift box. The client wanted dark, ceremonial imagery that matches the price point of the liquor, so the whole session was built on jagged black volcanic rock with a single red accent light. All 4 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges

1. A red bottle on black rock drowns without a color plan. Deep red glass on near-black stone collapses into a silhouette if the only light is white. A red-gelled rim light from the rear right draws the bottle edge and ignites the red glass, while a soft neutral key keeps the gold cap readable.

2. Gold caps pick up every stray reflection. The ornate textured cap mirrors the whole studio. It is lit by one small gridded source so the relief pattern holds highlights without showing the softbox array.

3. A pour shot has one usable tenth of a second. The liquor stream has to catch the rim light while the tasting dish stays clean. The pour is repeated at a fixed height until the stream, the cap highlight and the focus plane land in the same frame.

Our Approach

Hero on volcanic rock.

Frame 01 stands the bottle upright on a slab of raw volcanic rock against an unlit backdrop. The 100mm macro at f/8 keeps the calligraphy label tack sharp while the rock texture falls soft behind it.

Gift box reveal.

Frame 02 opens the hinged box on the same rock surface, with the bottle nested inside and the embossed gold medallion facing camera. The red gel stays, so box and bottle read as one ceremonial object.

The working pour.

Frame 03 tilts a second bottle to pour into a shallow tasting dish on neutral grey, trading the red drama for a clean use-case read. Only the pouring hand edge enters frame.

Reclined alternate.

Frame 04 lays the bottle diagonally across the rock ridge for a tighter editorial composition that crops well for banner use.

"Dark liquor photography is edge control. The bottle is black glass with red blood in it; your job is to let the red show without letting the studio show." — June, Product Photography Team Lead
