Photography Challenges
- White milk against a saturated green set. Coconut milk has to read bright and appetizing next to deep moss green. Overexpose by half a stop and the splash highlights clip to paper white; underexpose and the drink turns gray and looks stale against the green.
- Three surfaces with opposite lighting needs in one frame. The glossy PP cup mirror-reflects every light source, the dry coconut husk swallows light, and wet moss sits in between. A single lighting ratio makes the cup glare while the husk goes muddy, or cleans up the cup and kills the scene's texture.
- Black label legibility. The black label with orange and gold print absorbs scene light. Without a dedicated fill, the Gudai Shiguo branding sinks into the cup's own shadow and the product becomes an anonymous black cup in a jungle.
- Splash timing with a viscous liquid. Coconut milk is opaque and heavier than water, so the crown shape holds for a fraction of a second, and every pour soaks the moss and gravel. There are limited attempts before the set needs a full reset.
Our Approach
Tropical Set Design and Prop Styling
The moss jungle was built in-studio rather than shot outdoors, because an outdoor set cannot hold an identical green across 7 frames as sunlight shifts. A gravel and sand bed gives the cup a stable base, and the miniature palm trees and beach umbrella are scaled to the 420mL cup so the props read as a playful beach scene instead of toys next to a drink. Fresh coconuts were cracked the same morning - flesh that sits for hours oxidizes to a dull off-white that reads as stale on camera.
High-Speed Splash and Pour Photography
For the splash frames we used strobes at a flash duration of roughly 1/5000s, which is what actually freezes the milk crown - shutter speed alone cannot do it because ambient light would still register motion. Each usable splash took 40-60 frames. The hand-pour shot was framed from a slightly low angle so the milk stream separates from the moss background instead of merging into it, and the pour was timed to the moment the stream hits the coconut flesh for the small secondary splash.
Post-Production and Retouching
Final selects combine the best splash crown with the cleanest cup frame from the same take. Milk highlights were pulled down about 15 points to recover texture, and a +5 warmth adjustment keeps the coconut white appetizing rather than blue against the green. The label was straightened and condensation cleaned up. Files were delivered as 2000px sRGB JPG and WebP with crops prepared for Amazon and Shopify slots.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a styled coconut juice drink shoot like this cost?
Styled scene beverage photography starts from $35 per image under our Growth package, including custom splash work on a purpose-built set, props, styling, professional retouching, and unlimited revisions.
How long does a 7-image beverage shoot take?
This set was shot in a single studio day. The high-speed splash rig adds about 1 hour of timing tests before the first pour. Retouched finals are delivered within our standard 5-7 business day turnaround.
Can these styled images be used on Amazon?
Yes, for secondary slots, A+ content, and brand store banners. Amazon's grocery main image must be on a pure white background, so we can add white-background versions of this 420mL cup at $12 per image in the same session to cover every slot.
How do you freeze a milk splash without motion blur?
We use strobes with a flash duration of about 1/5000s, triggered as the milk hits its peak. Each usable splash takes 40-60 frames, and the best crown shape is composited with the cleanest cup frame in post-production.
Is the tropical jungle a real outdoor location?
No. The moss jungle was built inside our 3,000 m² studio in Guangzhou. An in-studio set keeps the green identical across all 7 frames and across future SKUs, and the shoot is independent of weather and season.
How do you keep the black label readable against a dark green set?
A strip softbox at 45 degrees acts as a dedicated label fill, and the cup is rotated so the label catches the fill rather than the key light. Label exposure is held about 1 stop above the moss so the branding stays legible without flattening the scene.
Can you shoot other flavors or cup sizes in the same style?
Yes. The moss set is reusable, so additional flavors or cup sizes match this look within the same session at the standard Growth package rate. White-background add-ons start from $12 per image under our Essential package.
