The product is grilled meat skewers: lamb and beef marinated and grilled to order. The client wanted the frames to read smoky and premium, so the set is dark slate with spice props and real smoke, and one flame hero for the campaign. All 7 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges

1. Smoke must read in the frame, not fill it. Real smoke is shot against a dark slate with a backlight, so the wisps read clean without obscuring the meat.

2. Lamb and beef need separate char timing. Lamb sears faster than beef. Each meat is grilled to its own second count so the char marks read clean on both.

3. The flame hero is a one-shot moment. The flame is torched at the moment of capture, with the skewer held in a clamp rig so no hand enters the frame.

Our Approach

Slate and spice block.

Frames 01-02 establish the dark slate set with cumin, chili and the spice rub.

Smoke and texture block.

Frames 03-04 add the smoke wisps and the stacked herb garnish, keeping the meat the brightest object in frame.

Flame and group closers.

Frames 05-07 finish with the flame hero, the juicy cross-section and the lamb-plus-beef group.

Post-production and delivery.

Retouching cleaned smoke overshoot, held the dark grade, and delivered 2000x2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
