Photography Challenges

1. Translucent skin is a steam-timing window. Under-steamed skins read chalky, over-steamed skins tear. The dumplings steam to a fixed minute and move straight to the plate, so the skin turns glassy and stays whole.

2. The filling must hint through the skin. The pink shrimp and green cucumber read through the skin only while the surface is moist. A light brush of oil holds the sheen through the shoot.

3. White skin on white needs a shadow plan. Pale dumplings on a white plate need contact shadows to read as separate pieces. The key is angled so each dumpling throws a soft shadow on its neighbor.

Our Approach

Steam to the minute.

The batch is steamed to a tested time, then plated immediately while the skins are glassy.

Plate for translucency.

The dumplings are arranged with slight overlaps so the angled key pulls shadows between pieces and the fillings hint through.

Post-production and delivery.

Retouching held the skin sheen, cleaned the plate, and delivered 2000x2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
