A cross-border men's footwear seller sent one catalog day with five very different families in the box: white and grey chunky runners and a black speckled-sole pair staged with badminton props on a diagonal pink-and-blue set, clean white low-tops stacked on a grey sweep, navy suede lace-ups on a blue-and-beige split, brown suede brogues styled with a map, newspaper and pen, and a black leather monk strap with fringe beside a watch magazine and coffee beans. The brief: every frame must feel like the same brand page, not five separate shoots. All 8 images were shot in our Guangzhou studio in one day and delivered in 5 business days with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges
1. Five families, one page rhythm. Sneakers with sport props and brogues on a newspaper look like two different shops if each set gets its own lighting mood. The fix is a shared recipe: we locked camera height, horizon line, key-light direction and shadow density before the first set was built, then only swapped surfaces and props between families. Lock the frame geometry first, and five products take turns inside one catalog language instead of fighting for it.
2. Suede eats light unevenly. The navy and brown suede pairs looked patchy under a normal soft key because suede nap, the tiny fibers on the surface, reflects light in one direction only. Where the fibers lean toward the light the shoe looks pale; where they lean away it goes dark. We brushed every pair in one direction, then moved the key to a low grazing angle, meaning the light skims across the surface instead of hitting it flat, so the nap reads as one even tone and the stitching relief stays visible.
3. Polished black leather and metal fringe hardware throw hard glare. The monk strap mixes glossy black leather with small metal hardware, and both act like mirrors. A small light source prints itself as a harsh white dot on the vamp. We swapped to a large soft source and added black flags, which are just light-blocking boards, to cut the reflection into one long clean streak along the strap. Highlights stayed below clipping, so the leather grain survived instead of turning into a black hole with white spots.
Our Approach
Split-color sport set for the sneakers
The two runner families got a diagonal pink-and-blue paper set with a badminton racket and shuttlecock as props. The key light sat 45 degrees to the left and slightly behind the shoes, with a white fill card on the right to open the shadows. The split background gives energy without a location shoot, and the racket tells the sport story in one read. Camera height stayed at the catalog-standard level set at the start of the day.
Desk-editorial sets for the dress families
The brogues and monk strap moved to a desk story: a map, a newspaper with a pen, a watch magazine and scattered coffee beans. Props sat a half step behind the shoe plane so focus falls off and the shoe stays the sharpest object. A slightly warmer white balance separated the brown leather from the paper props, because equal warmth on both makes product and prop merge into one brown mass.
Post-production: one grade across five families
Each setup started with a grey card frame, a neutral reference that lets us match white balance exactly between sets. In the grade we unified the black point so shadows feel identical across the catalog, held the navy suede away from pure black, and kept the brogue brown from drifting yellow. Dust and loose fibers on the suede were spotted out frame by frame. Final delivery at 2000x2000px, ready for Amazon and DTC listing slots.
"A men's catalog lives or dies on rhythm: lock the camera, lock the light, and five different shoes take turns in the same frame without argument." — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a multi-style men's shoe catalog like this cost?
The 8 styled still-life images here sit in the Growth tier starting at $35 per image, so this catalog starts around $280. If you also need plain white-background versions for Amazon main slots, those are $12 per image under the Essential package. All rates are starting prices; the final quote depends on your shot list.
Can sneakers and dress shoes be shot in the same session?
Yes, that is exactly what this project was. We shot five families, from chunky runners to a monk strap, in one studio day by locking the camera and light recipe first, then swapping only surfaces and props between families. Mixed catalogs usually save a full day compared with booking each style separately.
How many images do I get per shoe style?
In this catalog each family received one to two styled frames, 8 images across five families. For listing use we normally suggest a front three-quarter view, a side profile and one detail or prop frame per SKU, and we scale the shot list to your catalog size during quoting.
Do you supply the props, or do we ship them?
Both work. The badminton set, map, newspaper, pen, magazine and coffee props here came from our studio prop stock, which covers most sport, desk and lifestyle themes. If your product needs branded or unusual props, ship them with the shoes and we will build the set around them.
How do you keep suede looking even in photos?
Suede nap reflects light directionally, so we brush every pair in one direction and light it with a low grazing angle that skims the surface. That combination is what turns patchy suede into one even tone. It is standard prep for every suede product that enters our studio, and it costs you nothing extra.
What resolution and license do the images come with?
This catalog was delivered at 2000x2000px, which covers Amazon's zoom requirement and most DTC templates. Every project ships with a full commercial license for your listings, ads and social channels, with no per-platform fees.
What do you need from us to quote a catalog like this?
Three things: your SKU count and photos of each shoe, the channel list (Amazon, DTC, wholesale), and any reference images for the mood you want. With those we return a per-image quote and a set plan, usually within one business day. Use the contact page to start.
