Chinese Porcelain Vase Photography

The client sells decorative Chinese porcelain and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to shoot 8 statement pieces for its catalog: a famille-rose figure vase, a fish ginger jar, a crane baluster, a scalloped fish bowl, a mandarin-duck charger, a coral-red gilt vase, a wucai double-gourd, and a deer baluster. We shot 8 images in our Guangzhou studio: every piece centered alone on black gloss, lit to read its silhouette and its painting, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Black background, white porcelain, one spotlight. The piece must glow without blowing. We set a soft pool of light behind each vase, so the backdrop reads as a halo, not a hole, and the white body keeps its gradients from rim to foot.

2. The painting must face the camera. A vase is a 360-degree painting, but the photo gets one angle. We rotate each piece until its strongest passage faces front: the deer, the cranes, the duck pond. That is the frame buyers remember.

3. Glossy glaze, glossy floor. Two reflective surfaces double every highlight. We control both: one clean highlight line on the body, one soft reflection underneath, and nothing else in the frame to distract.

4. Eight pieces, one catalog. Different heights, widths, and colors must sit on one page. We locked camera height and framing margin for the whole session, so the catalog grid reads as a curated shelf, not a warehouse photo dump.
