Paper Gift Bags Product Photography

The client designs coordinated paper gift bags and sells the line to retailers, so the photography has to sell the range, not just one bag. The brief covered two themes: a baby shower line with stork and woodland prints, and a birthday line with rainbow and chevron prints, all shown gift-ready with fanned tissue, plus one cropped-model frame that answers the question every buyer asks: how big is it. All 6 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China, and delivered under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Tissue paper collapses on a timer. A fanned tissue crest is what makes a bag look gift-ready, and it relaxes visibly within 20 minutes under warm lights. Each bag is stuffed with a hidden card cone, the tissue is fanned last, and the frame is captured within 5 minutes of styling; frames 1, 5 and 6 all follow this order.

2. Isolated bags lie about their size. A baby bag and a birthday bag look identical in scale on white, and retail buyers order wrong sizes from scale-blind photos. Frame 4 puts the blue birthday bag in a cropped model's hand at her side, head out of frame so the bag stays the subject, and the bag's real carry scale reads instantly against her torso.

3. Glitter and foil prints blow out under direct light. The gold dots on the baby line and the holographic HAPPY BIRTHDAY foil are mirror prints on matte cardstock. The window-style key is angled so the foil catches a soft gradient instead of a hard hotspot, keeping both the foil shine and the pastel print readable in one exposure.

4. Two themes must read as one catalog. Baby pastels and birthday brights sit far apart in mood. One interior set family (pale wood, cream walls, sheer curtains) and one warm golden-hour light recipe run across frames 1 to 5, so a retailer flipping the range sees coordinated lines from one brand, not two separate shoots.

Our Approach

Frames 1, 2, 3 and 5 stage the bags in a sunlit room set: sideboard, armchair, sheer curtains and a projected window-grid shadow on the wall. The light is a large warm source off frame right at low angle, simulating late afternoon — soft enough to keep pastel print detail, directional enough to give the bags dimension.

Frame 6 isolates the woodland Hello Baby pair on a white sweep with mint and coral tissue, shot straight-on at f/11 so both handle shapes and the hang tag read clean. This is the frame that runs as the marketplace main image.

Post-production and delivery.

Pastel accuracy is checked against the physical bags because blush pink shifts salmon under warm light — the warmth added for mood is pulled back selectively on the product in retouching. Tissue creases stay as styled, and all 6 frames were delivered as 2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
