Nineteen people in one formal frame is a logistics exercise before it is a lighting one. This studio session arranged the client's full staff in two tiers on a chocolate-brown sweep, seated members on a mix of chairs, stools and posing blocks up front, standing members slotted into the gaps behind, with wardrobes coordinated across navy, black and white. The frame was delivered under a full commercial license for the company's anniversary, website and reception-area use.

Photography Challenges
1. Nineteen faces, zero blocked heads. In a two-tier group this size, every standing head must find a gap between seated shoulders. The tiers are set person by person on a posing map, and the frame is checked for occlusions before the first real take.
2. Mixed seating levels a wide row. Chairs, stools and posing blocks give different seat heights, which is how a 19-person row stays level without a built riser. Each seat is assigned per person so heads step evenly across the panorama.
3. A brown sweep under dark wardrobes. Navy and black on chocolate brown is a low-separation palette. The key is raised high and broad so faces carry, and the backdrop is lit a touch brighter behind the group so shoulders stay traced against it.
4. Nineteen people blink on different schedules. At this headcount, every take has someone mid-blink or mid-breath. The session shoots in short bursts and the keeper is picked per face, with the final frame checked head by head before sign-off.
Our Approach
The panorama frame.
The keeper is the full 19-person staff portrait: eight seated across the front, eleven standing behind, all eyes to camera. The wide crop is built for the reception wall and the anniversary book spread.
Lighting for width.
A broad high-set key with strong fill keeps exposure even across the full span, so the staff at the far left and right read as brightly as the center. Catchlights are checked on every face.
Wardrobe as a grid.
The navy-black-white palette is distributed so no two identical outfits sit adjacent, and the single blush dress is placed off-center as a deliberate accent. Coordinated, not uniform.
Retouching a 19-face deliverable.
Each face is retouched individually at full zoom, the sweep is smoothed, floor clutter is removed, and the final grade is balanced so no face runs warmer or darker than its neighbor.
"A group this size is a seating chart with a camera attached. Solve the geometry first and the portrait takes care of itself." — Garbo, Director of Photography
