AIMI Visual Media produced a 100-second advertising video for a cordless stick vacuum with a blue-purple body and gold extension wand, shot in 1080p landscape on a Canon 5D Mark IV inside a real modern show flat. A triple-clone opening shows one-hand cleaning in three scenes at once. Delivery took 7 to 15 business days.

The client’s cordless stick vacuum leads with one selling point: light enough for one-hand use anywhere at home, floors, sofa gaps, curtain tops. A spec readout would not land it, so we built a clone composition: three usage scenes inside a single frame, making “use anywhere” directly visible. The model in home wear works naturally in a real living room, and function demos like brush swaps and dust-cup cleaning follow the story rhythm instead of becoming a parameter list.

Creative Concept
Home appliance ads fail when they read like manuals. Our strategy was scenario storytelling: a model in home wear uses the vacuum naturally in a real living room, floors, sofa gaps, curtain tops, all everyday actions. The clone frame is the memory hook, placed in the golden first 3 seconds to nail “lightweight” into the viewer’s head; brush-head swaps and dust-cup cleaning then demo in segments, subordinate to narrative pace rather than parameter recital.
Production
We shot in a modern minimalist show flat: a light gray sofa, stone-slab feature wall, and plants form a clean neutral backdrop that does not fight the blue-purple body. Continuous LED fixtures (5500K, CRI 95 or higher) lit the model’s face from the front-side at about 2 meters, with window daylight as the base. A small softbox on the body itself suppressed stray reflections off the plastic shell. Camera height stayed eye-level, dropping to low angles for working shots to emphasize the stick structure’s lines. Canon 5D Mark IV capture; post covered editing, clone compositing, color, and subtitles.
Production Challenges
1. The clone composite demands a frozen camera and identical light. The tripod was locked down with added weights, and lighting and exposure parameters were held identical across the three performances and logged take by take. Any drift in position, exposure, or light placement would betray the join when the passes merge in post.
2. Two materials, blue-purple plastic and gold metal, reflect light differently. We lit by zone: soft light on the body to prevent blotchy reflections, a narrow beam on the metal wand to bring out texture. Each material gets the light its surface needs inside the same frame, so neither looks cheap.
3. The deep living room split foreground and background brightness. We gave the background its own extra stop of light so front and back of the space sit in the same exposure world. The room reads as one continuous interior instead of a bright subject pasted against a dim backdrop.

Where the Film Lives
The full version fits the brand website homepage and the JD.com and Tmall detail-page video slots; 15-second cuts run as Douyin and Kuaishou feed ads. Appliance videos convert directly on detail pages because buyers see real usage instead of parameter tables. The clone version also works for Moments sharing and offline store screens on loop, covering online and offline touchpoints from one production.
The worst appliance ad recites parameters. Buyers want to see the thing in their own home. The clone frame compresses three scenes into one image: high density, zero babble. - June — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a home appliance ad video cost?
Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. Pricing scales with creative complexity, scene count, and compositing workload; effect shots like the clone opening are itemized in the quote. Volume discounts apply for multi-video orders. Contact us for a formal quote.
How is the clone effect shot made?
The principle is simple: lock the camera completely, have the model perform in different positions under the same lighting, then erase and join the passes into one scene in post. The difficulty is up front; any drift in camera, exposure, or light position breaks the illusion, so we weight the tripod and log every parameter per take.
Who provides the shooting location?
Either way works. We have partner show flats and real-scene studios matched by style, or we come to your showroom, office, or real home. On-location venue and travel costs go into the quote at actual cost, itemized and confirmed before shooting, with no hidden fees.
Vacuums are loud; how is the sound handled?
On set we record reference audio only. Final sound is rebuilt in post: motor running sounds come from a professional library, matched point by point to the on-screen action. Music and effects are mixed to a unified loudness, keeping realism without the harsh noise of the real machine.
How long from planning to delivery?
Once the storyboard is confirmed, shooting takes 1 day and editing, compositing, and color take 7 to 15 business days. A 48-hour first cut is possible for rush cases. For product launches, start about 3 weeks ahead to leave room for revisions.
Who designs the function demonstration parts?
We build the storyboard from your selling points: which functions deserve screen time, which action shows each, and how many seconds each gets. Your marketing team adds or removes function points at script review, the cheapest stage for changes; after shooting, changes mean reshoot costs.
Can one production yield multiple versions?
Yes, standard practice. Beyond the full version we can deliver 15-second and 30-second ad cuts and a vertical version in the same edit pass, far cheaper than reshooting. State the versions you need before shooting so the storyboard is designed for multiple outputs.
How many sample units should we prepare?
We suggest 2 to 3 units: one for usage shots, one disassembled for brush-head and dust-cup close-ups, and one spare. Demo shots involve repeated assembly; rotating units keeps each clean and avoids downtime if one fails, especially for small appliances.
Is the home scene a real house?
It is a real show flat, not a temporary set. Real interiors give depth and material texture a set cannot, especially floor reflections and natural window light. We scout in advance to confirm outlets, light windows, and furniture against the storyboard.
What do post revisions include?
Two free revision rounds after the first cut, covering shot order, subtitle copy, music and sound, and grading style. Disagreements that would mean reshoots are usually resolved at the storyboard stage, which is why we walk through the script shot by shot before production.
