AIMI Visual Media produced a 1 min 10 s promo video for a Cartelo Crocodile two-piece hard-shell luggage set, shot in studio at 1920x1080. Filmed on Canon 5D4 with dual large softboxes, gradient background light, and a heavy-duty motorized turntable, the delivery adds a clean version, per-section clips, and a 30-second cutdown in 5 to 7 business days.

The client wanted one film that presented the set combination and the hard-shell texture: one large and one small silver-grey case with vertical stripes, black corner guards, and spinner wheels. Large reflective products add a layer of difficulty on video, because highlights travel across the shell as it turns and any loose light position throws wandering hotspots across the stripes. We anchored the whole approach on three controls: locked camera positions, constant turntable speed, and fully softened light.

Creative Concept
Set products live or die in the first five seconds, so the opening staging had to explain the pair instantly: the small case front-left, the large one back-right, with a low push-in that lets the small case enter first and the large one follow. The narrative order mirrors how detail-page buyers absorb information: combination first, single-case rotation second, hardware details last. Camera and case never move at the same time, because on oversized products dual motion reads as cheap shake.
Production
Striped silver-grey shells pick light apart, so the key came from two large softboxes at 45 degrees from above, about 1.5 meters out, with the ratio held inside 1:2: stripe ridges carry highlight, grooves keep depth, and no harsh bars appear. A separate lamp laid a gradient on the grey background half a stop off the shell tone so the case outline holds. A white reflector below returned ambient into the black corner guards and wheels. Color temperature locked at 5500K with grey-card checks, so the silver-grey lands neutral and the client can use the file without re-grading.
Production Challenges
1. Vertical stripes behave like a row of small mirrors. Slightly hard light turns the shell into white bars, so we enlarged the softboxes and pulled them farther back, spreading the highlight evenly with a broad source. Test lighting against the actual shell finish precedes every shoot of this kind, because glossy, matte, and alloy shells each want different positions.
2. A heavy case makes ordinary turntables judder. Standard turntables stutter under a loaded hard case and the picture jumps with them. We switched to a higher load-rated motorized turntable, set it to the slowest speed, and recorded a full rotation per take, so the spin you see is real and no speed ramping happens in post.
3. Two cases side by side exposed unevenly. In the paired staging the small case caught more light than the large one, which read as a visible color difference on camera. We metered both positions point by point and held the illuminance gap within one third of a stop, so the two-shot frame reads even across the set.

Where the Film Lives
The horizontal 1080P master anchors the brand website, JD and Tmall detail-page video slots, and in-store screens. At 70 seconds it runs long for a detail-page first screen, so the 30-second cutdown with tighter pacing takes that slot. Douyin and WeChat Channels placements call for a separately shot vertical version, since cropping horizontal footage cuts off the case sides and breaks the set composition. For cross-border platforms such as Amazon, lead with the product and keep subtitles light, after checking each platform’s latest policy.
With luggage the priority never changes: light first, stability second, rotation third. The bigger the case, the more restrained the camera move; slow every push and pan down by half and the product gains its price on screen. — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a luggage promo video cost?
Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A set film like this, with turntable work, detail close-ups, a cutdown, and per-section clips, is quoted by brief scope. Tell us the piece count, usage, and any reference films, and we return an itemized quote the same day.
How do you control reflections on striped hard shells?
Large softboxes placed far back spread the highlight so stripe ridges carry light and grooves carry shadow, with no white bars. We test-light against the actual shell material before shooting, because glossy, matte, and aluminum-magnesium finishes each need different positions. Testing happens on our time, not your shoot day.
Can two- or three-piece sets fit in one video?
Yes. The standard structure opens with the set combination, rotates each case individually in the middle, and returns to the combination at the close, covering both set and singles in one film. With more pieces we build the solo sections as detachable segments, so every SKU can be cut out for standalone use.
Can wheels and handles be shown clearly?
Yes. The detail section gives the spinner wheels rolling, the handle extending through its stops, and the lock opening as dedicated close-ups, shot low with follow moves so wheel smoothness and metal texture both read. Stills from these clips can also feed your detail-page part diagrams.
Will silver-grey cases shift blue or yellow on screen?
No. We lock 5500K color temperature for the whole shoot and calibrate with a grey card on set, so the silver-grey reproduces to the physical product. The grade adjusts only exposure and contrast, never hue, so what your customers see on screen matches the case they receive, with no re-grading round.
Can your studio handle large suitcases?
Our studio is built for oversized products: 28- and 29-inch checked cases rotate in place and roll through push-pull moves, and multi-piece sets have the depth for staged layouts. For extra-large items or outdoor scenes we support location or on-site shooting, with the venue plan confirmed at script stage.
How long does a luggage promo take?
This kind of film runs 5 to 7 business days from script sign-off to delivery: script and plan confirmation in one to two days, one studio day, then two to three days of edit and grade. A 48-hour rush is possible. For sale-season deadlines, kick off at least two weeks ahead.
Can we get a vertical version for Douyin?
Yes, and we recommend shooting it as a separate setup rather than cropping. Horizontal-to-vertical cropping slices off the case sides and breaks the set composition. Adding a vertical version in the same session costs far less than a separate shoot; just flag it when we quote.
Will our logo read clearly in the film?
Yes. Nameplates and logo positions get dedicated close-ups, with side light to bring out the relief of embossed marks. For reflective metal logos we use a polarizer to control glare so the mark stays legible. Your brand materials and subtitle packaging can also be composited in during post.
How many revision rounds are included?
Two free rounds after delivery, covering edit pacing, subtitle changes, and section re-ordering; a third round onward is billed by workload. Notes organized by timecode come back as a new version in one to two working days, and the more precise the script stage, the fewer revisions post needs.
