AIMI Visual Media produced a 55-second scenario commercial for a slimming tea brand, mastered at 1920×1080 for e-commerce detail pages, brand website use, and paid feed placements. Shot in a bright living-room scene with natural window light on a Canon 5D Mark IV, the film opens on a relatable everyday moment before the product enters. Delivery took 7-10 business days.

The client asked for a commercial that could run on e-commerce detail pages and in paid feed placements. We built the open on a scene the target viewer lives daily: a woman in a white tee sunk into a grey sofa, scrolling her phone, one hand resting absent-mindedly on her stomach. The product enters inside that moment rather than ahead of it. For functional food, the brief had a third requirement beyond lifestyle framing and pain-point subtitles: compliance, and it shaped every line from storyboard to subtitle pass.

Creative Concept

Functional food advertising that lectures on ingredients gets skipped; advertising that plays the viewer’s own life back gets watched. The open is the pain-point scene itself, sofa scrolling with a hand on the stomach, so the target user recognizes herself in the first seconds. The product appears after the scene lands, resonance before persuasion; reversed, it becomes a hard sell. Subtitles are short pain-point phrases, each under ten characters, timed to the picture rhythm so the full narrative reads with the sound off. The purple-and-orange subtitle bars give the film its visual memory point, and every claim stayed inside the compliance line drawn at script stage.

Production

The look we wanted was sunlight spilling into a living room, so the main source was the floor-to-ceiling window itself, with a white sheer curtain turning direct sun into diffusion. A single LED constant light filled the model’s face from the front-side at low power, touching shadows without competing with the daylight. The grey sofa and white tee are midtones, so exposure was set on the face while the window area kept a touch of overexposure; in a lifestyle film that highlight spill reads as airiness. We locked 5500K and recalibrated with a grey card at every new shooting block, because morning and afternoon daylight shift color and skin tones have to match across cuts. Shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV.

Production Challenges

1. Holding the compliance line on efficacy claims. Weight-management food ads cannot promise results or use absolute wording. Subtitles stay with scene description and emotional resonance, and every product selling-point line was checked word by word against the qualification documents the client supplied. That line was fixed at script stage, not patched in post.

2. Working with unstable natural light. A passing cloud changes the room’s exposure and shots stop matching. We batched each setup into one time window, chased levels with the LED fill, and recalibrated color temperature with a grey card per block so skin tones stayed consistent from the first take to the last.

3. Keeping the model natural on the sofa. Lounging looks easy and photographs stiff when the pose is forced. We let the model find a comfortable position her own way first, then adjusted from there, and had her genuinely scroll her phone for ten minutes to settle in. The looseness on screen is real, not performed.

Where the Film Lives

The 55-second horizontal master suits e-commerce detail pages, the brand website, and paid feed placements, where the pain-point open holds the first three seconds. The segment cuts run as short clips on Douyin and WeChat Channels for seeding. Functional food faces stricter ad review than most categories, so efficacy wording and qualification files should be prepared early and current platform policies checked before versions are locked. The living-room scene and subtitle template carry over to other products in the line: reshoot the product segment and the series cost drops.

Compliance is the one; everything else is the zero behind it. Say less, say it true, and let a real living room do the persuading. — June — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a slimming tea or functional food video cost?

Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A scenario commercial like this, with a model, a living-room scene, and several delivered versions, is quoted by brief once scene count, model needs, and length are known. Model fees are itemized separately by on-screen time and licensing scope.

How do you handle efficacy claims for functional food ads?

The red lines are results promises and absolute wording, and neither appears. At script stage we check subtitles and any voiceover line by line: scenes and emotional resonance are ours to write, product selling points follow the qualification documents you provide. Platform rules differ, so review current policies before placement.

Do you supply the model, and how is she billed?

Yes, from our partner resources, matched to the persona in the script. Fees are separate and calculated by on-screen time and portrait-licensing scope, with the license written into the contract before the shoot. For scenario films we cast for a lived-in feel; heavy acting hurts credibility.

Is the living room a real location or a studio set?

Either works: a real residence or a home-style set built in the studio. Real locations give better natural light and spatial depth. Floor-to-ceiling windows, sheer curtains, and a fabric sofa are the standard kit. If you have a venue that fits the brand tone, we can shoot there with travel billed at cost.

Who writes the subtitle copy, and what if something is wrong?

We draft from the script, and your marketing or legal team verifies line by line before we roll; efficacy and qualification wording follows your documents. This locks expression and accuracy on both ends. Verification records are archived with the master, so later placement edits have a paper trail.

Does pain-point marketing risk overclaiming?

The discipline is translation, not exaggeration. We stage the consumer’s real life: long sitting, phone scrolling, a hand on the stomach. These are scenes, not promises, so viewers identify without touching the red line. Efficacy stays inside what your qualification documents allow.

How long does production take?

A scenario commercial runs 7-10 business days from script confirmation: two to three days for script and compliance checks plus model scheduling, one shoot day, and three to four for edit and grade. A 48-hour rush is possible; for major promotions, kick off about three weeks ahead.

Can you shoot a vertical version for Douyin in the same session?

Yes. A two-camera session covers both orientations: the model blocking and set stay, only the framing and core shots are recomposed, which costs far less than a separate shoot. The vertical cut’s first three seconds are redesigned around feed logic. Tell us the platform mix at kickoff.

Can several products from the same brand become a series?

Yes, and we recommend it. The living-room scene and subtitle template are built once; swapping products means reshooting the product segment, so each extra film’s marginal cost drops noticeably. A unified persona, grade, and subtitle style also serves long-term brand account building. Series are quoted as a package.

How many revision rounds are included?

Two free rounds after delivery, covering subtitle wording, music, segment order, and grade tweaks; later rounds are billed by workload. Compliance-related subtitle fixes get priority. Send time-coded notes in one batch and the new version usually returns within 1-2 business days.
