Plush fleece photographs flat in flat light, so this two-look session is built around texture light. Frame 1 zips a deep navy plush fleece jacket, pearl-dot placket trim and lace-collar knit over mustard corduroy knee-patch pants, the model waving against a cream plaster wall strung with orange and lemon bunting. Frame 2 swaps to a cream sherpa hooded jacket with rounded bear ears over the same corduroy base, hands at the hood to show the ear detail. The felt mushroom cutouts and pennant flags keep both frames in one storybook world while soft side light rakes the pile so the fleece reads thick, not flat.

Photography Challenges

1. Fleece pile dies in frontal light. Straight-on flash presses plush and sherpa into a single flat tone. The key moves off axis so light rakes across the pile, and the model turns three-quarters so seams, zips and the pearl-dot placket all catch a value edge.

2. A cream set can bleed into cream garments. The sherpa hoodie sits one stop off the wall color. A gentle flag on the background side deepens the wall a half tone, so the hood ears and shoulder line separate cleanly without a hard outline.

3. Props must read playful, not random. Felt mushrooms and bunting are cropped deliberately at frame edges, so they signal a storybook set without competing with the garment front for the sharp plane.

4. One model, two energies. The same child carries a wave in frame 1 and a hood-check in frame 2; the gestures are chosen to open the jacket front and lift the hood ears, so each pose is doing product work first.

Our Approach

The wave frame.

Frame 1 sets the model leaning into the wall with a raised wave, the navy fleece open just enough to show the lace collar; bunting runs across the upper right so the eye travels from color to garment.

The hood frame.

Frame 2 brings both hands to the hood edge, squaring the bear ears to camera; the cream sherpa fills the upper frame while mustard corduroy anchors the lower half, repeating the first frame's palette in reverse.

Shared light recipe.

Both frames use one large soft source camera-left and a warm bounce card right, with the background flagged a half stop down; pile texture is checked at full crop before the look wraps.

Catalog-ready retouch.

Retouch keeps natural skin, removes set dust and straightens the felt edges, and both frames grade to the same warm cream balance for a matched listing pair.

"Texture is the product on a fleece page. Light the pile from the side and the garment sells itself; light it flat and you are selling a color swatch." — Garbo, Director of Photography
