The client was a womenswear seller listing a cherry-print A-line sundress with spaghetti straps, a sweet print that needs a set with some wit to match. We staged the pair at our styled storefront entrance: black-and-white checkerboard floor, gray walls, and a yellow door trim that rhymes with the print's stems. Two frames, one model, bright daylight-style light, delivered with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. A busy print on a busy floor Cherry print over a checkerboard floor is two patterns arguing, and the argument gets loud fast. We kept the model on the floor's quieter stretch, shot at f/2.8 so the checkerboard softens a half-step behind her, and let the dress's red accents be the frame's only saturated note besides the door trim. The floor reads as a set, the print reads as the product.

2. Sweet prints tip into costume fast A cherry skater dress photographed too cute, props, poses, tilted everything, stops being a product image and starts being a birthday card. We kept the direction plain: clean standing and turning frames, real posture, no pouting, one yellow trim as the set's single joke. The dress keeps its charm without the sugar crash.

Our Approach

Lighting

Position: large soft key frontal and slightly high, warm grade to suit the print's mood. Settings: exposure metered for the dress fabric, floor allowed to fall a half-step dark. Why: a printed sundress needs honest fabric exposure first, and the set's pattern needs to sit back, which a frontal key and a slightly underexposed floor accomplish together.

Camera and exposure

Canon EOS R5, RF 85mm f/1.4L at f/2.8 for both frames, ISO 100, 1/200s. Why: the 85mm at f/2.8 keeps the dress sharp while the checkerboard loses its edge, which is exactly the hierarchy a two-pattern frame needs.

Set and series

One storefront set, two angles, straight-on entrance frame and a three-quarter frame at the door trim. Why: a two-frame pair with two compositions covers a listing's hero and support slots with no filler.

"Print dresses die by competition: one more pattern, one more prop, one more color, and the dress is just noise. We let the set make one joke, the yellow trim, and keep everything else quiet so the cherries stay the point. Restraint is how our photography team shoots every character print." — Garbo, Senior Photographer

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a two-frame dress series cost?

On-model studio photography starts at $35 per image under the Growth tier, so a 2-image series like this one starts around $70, with model fees quoted separately. All rates are starting prices; our 2026 pricing guide explains the tiers.

How do you shoot a print dress on a patterned set?

Separate them by depth and saturation. The model stands on the floor's quietest stretch, we shoot at f/2.8 so the checkerboard softens behind her, and the dress's red accents stay the frame's only saturated note besides one trim color. The floor reads as set; the print reads as product.

How do you keep a sweet print looking commercial, not costume-y?

Plain direction. Clean standing and turning frames, real posture, no novelty props, and exactly one set accent, in this case the yellow door trim. The charm stays in the dress instead of leaking into the whole picture.

Is two frames enough for a dress listing?

For a focused SKU, yes: a hero and a support frame with two compositions. Most sellers add flat-lay or detail crops from the same session for the listing's close-up slots.

How soon are two-frame series delivered?

These 2 images were delivered in 2 business days: a short studio session, same-day culling, one day of retouching.

Are print-dress frames cleared for marketplace listings?

Yes. The full commercial license covers store, marketplace, and advertising use, and we deliver high-resolution masters plus web-ready crops for each listing slot.

A character print that should stay the point?

Dress photography on our styled Guangzhou sets, with model, styling, and full commercial license included from $35 per image.
