AIMI Visual Media photographed five tailored office looks on a female model against seamless grey: a pinstripe double-breasted suit with white mules, a houndstooth peplum set, a loden wool coat, and a shirt-and-flared-skirt editorial pairing. The monochrome studio series was shot on 85mm at f/8 with softbox and honeycomb control.

The client was a professional womenswear brand listing tailored suits and office separates on Amazon and its own store. We photographed five looks on one female model in the minimal grey studio at our Guangzhou facility: a black pinstripe double-breasted suit with tie-cuff trousers and white pointed mules, a black-and-white houndstooth peplum jacket with flared midi skirt, an olive-brown stand-collar loden coat, and an oversized back-button shirt with a dark flared skirt, plus one product-level frame of the carved-heel white mules. All five images were delivered with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges
1. Stripes and houndstooth are moiré machines Pinstripes and houndstooth are the two worst offenders for aliasing: at the wrong shooting distance or output size the patterns crawl into shimmering bands, and an office-wear buyer zooms straight into the weave. We fixed the detail frames at f/8, chose shooting distances that keep both pattern frequencies clear of the sensor’s aliasing zone, and proofed every frame at the platforms’ actual thumbnail and zoom sizes before sign-off. The pinstripes stay pinstripes at every size.
2. Black tailoring hides its own tailoring A black double-breasted suit sells on its cut, the lapel roll, the shoulder line, the waist suppression, and under soft even light all of that collapses into a flat black column. We added a honeycombed accent light to draw a narrow highlight along the lapel edge and shoulder seam, while the main softbox kept the overall grade quiet. The suit’s construction lines read at a glance, which is exactly what justifies a tailored price.
3. White shirt, black suit, one exposure The classic office pairing spans nearly the full dynamic range: expose for the black suit and the white shirt blows to paper, expose for the shirt and the suit drowns. We metered the shirt a third of a stop under clip and filled the suit side with a large white v-flat bouncing the key back, so both garments land inside the same honest exposure. No HDR tricks, no muddy grey shirt, just discipline.
4. One product frame inside a fashion series The carved-heel white mules needed their own product-level frame inside a five-look fashion series, and a hard light change would have broken the gallery’s mood. We kept the same grey world and softbox recipe, moved the shoe onto the seamless with its own accent for the carved wooden heel, and graded it to match the looks. The frame sells the shoe without announcing that the genre changed.
Our Approach
Lighting
Position: large softbox key at 45° front-side, white v-flat fill on the opposite side, honeycombed accent for lapel and shoulder lines, background light only where the grey needed a gradient. Settings: key metered f/8 at the face, accent one stop under. Why: tailoring photography is line drawing with light, and the accent lamp does the drawing while the softbox minds the tone.
Camera and exposure
Canon EOS R5, RF 85mm f/1.4L at f/8 throughout (pattern-critical sharpness), ISO 100, 1/160s sync, tethered for moiré checks at delivery sizes. Why one aperture: f/8 is where the R5’s sensor and these lenses resolve the finest weaves, and a fixed aperture keeps a five-look series technically identical.
Set and grade
Seamless grey with two props only, an angular black chair and a tall bar stool; high-contrast monochrome-leaning grade locked before shooting. Why: office wear sells authority, and a restrained set with a decisive grade gives five different looks one boardroom voice.
"Tailoring clients sometimes ask for drama, and I talk them out of it: a suit photograph is a promise about a seam, and drama lies about seams. The honest version is harder, one soft light, one accent line, exact exposure for black and white in the same frame, and a model who can stand like she means business. That restraint is what our photography team brings to professional wear." — Garbo, Senior Photographer

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a tailored studio series like this cost?
On-model studio photography starts at $35 per image under the Growth tier, so a 5-look series like this one starts around $175; campaign layouts start at $80 per image under A+ Content. Final quotes depend on looks, model hours, and whether product frames are mixed in. Our 2026 pricing guide breaks down the tiers.
Our pinstripes and houndstooth turn into shimmer online. Can you prevent it?
Yes. We shoot pattern-critical frames at f/8, choose distances that keep the pattern frequency clear of the sensor’s aliasing zone, and proof at the exact sizes the platforms serve. Moiré is engineered out before delivery, not repaired after.
How do you show the cut of a black suit?
With a narrow accent light raking the lapel edge and shoulder seam, over a quiet main light. The construction lines that justify a tailored price become visible at first glance.
Can you hold a white shirt and black suit in one exposure?
Yes: whites are metered a third of a stop under clip and the dark side is filled with a large v-flat. Both garments stay honest in one frame, with no HDR artifacts and no grey-looking shirt.
Can product frames be mixed into a fashion series?
Yes. The white mules in this series got their own product-level frame on the same seamless and grade, so the gallery sells the shoe without breaking its visual voice.
Do you direct professional poses?
Yes. Office wear needs boardroom body language, weight settled, shoulders level, chin set, and we direct to that standard rather than fashion-editorial slouch.
What comes with the final delivery?
Retouched high-resolution files in web and print versions with a full commercial license. This 5-image series was delivered within one working week.
Tailored pieces that deserve sharper photography?
