The client sells automotive fragrance accessories to online buyers in North America and Europe. The hero SKU is a round, hinged metal compact that clips into a car interior and releases scent through a pierced scroll-work top: polished chrome, cobalt blue resin inlay, and small blue crystals around the dome. The brief was clean white-background packshots that show the vent mechanism and the jewelry-level finish, delivered at marketplace resolution with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Chrome is a mirror, and mirrors photograph the whole room. Polished chrome reflects everything in the studio, including the camera, the lights, and the photographer. Left unmanaged, the dome shows a distorted selfie instead of a clean silver surface. We lit through a diffusion tent so the metal reads as smooth gradients with two controlled highlight lines, and the only thing the chrome reflects is white.

2. Cobalt resin and crystals need sparkle without flare. The blue inlay and small crystals are what make this compact feel like jewelry, but point light on faceted stones creates blown white dots that read as defects at thumbnail size. We used a large soft source from the front-left and a small gridded accent from above, so the crystals show blue fire while the resin keeps its deep cobalt color.

3. The vent is the function, and it had to read. Buyers need to see how the scent gets out. The pierced scroll top is shallow relief, and flat light turns it into a featureless disc. A raking accent light across the dome put a thin shadow inside each pierced curve, so the vent pattern is legible in both frames.

Our Approach

White-background packshots.

The compact was shot on a white seamless with a faint contact shadow kept underneath, so the product grounds itself instead of floating. Two angles cover the listing: a 45-degree high view showing the vented dome and crystal ring, and a lower three-quarter view showing the front latch and shell profile.

Lens and aperture for a palm-sized product.

The compact is small enough to sit in a palm, so we shot on a 100mm macro at f/11. The macro keeps the round dome free of the edge stretch a wider lens would give it, and f/11 holds focus from the front latch to the far rim without focus stacking.

Retouching and delivery.

Chrome shows every fingerprint and dust point at 100% zoom, so retouching removed handling marks and micro-dust while keeping the metal’s natural gradient. Files were delivered at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG quality 90 plus WebP, ready for Amazon main-image and secondary slots.

"With chrome you do not light the product, you light what the product reflects. Get the room white and quiet, and the metal finishes itself." June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How is small automotive accessory photography priced?

White-background packshots like these start at $12 per image under our Essential package. A 2-image set of one SKU starts around $24. Styled or in-car scene images start at $35 per image under the Growth package. All rates are starting prices — final quote depends on your shot list.

What is the turnaround for a 2-image packshot set?

This set was delivered in 2 business days from product receipt. Our standard turnaround is 5-7 business days for larger SKU counts, with rush scheduling available.

How do you keep chrome from showing the studio?

We shoot reflective products inside a diffusion tent, so the metal reflects only white surfaces and two designed highlight lines. Anything the tent cannot control is finished in retouching, where we remove fingerprints and dust without flattening the metal gradient.

Can you show the diffuser installed in a car interior?

Yes. In-car scene photography is available as styled imagery from $35 per image. We source vehicle interiors and shoot vent-clip or dashboard placements that show scale and use context.

Are these images suitable as Amazon main images?

Yes. Both frames are on pure white at 2000x2000px sRGB with the product filling the frame, which fits Amazon main-image requirements for the auto accessories category.

Can you match this look across our full diffuser line?

Yes. The tent setup, camera height, and accent light position are documented per session, so additional colorways or models photographed months later sit in the same light and crop as this first set.
