White amino acid cleanser tube standing on rippling blue water with soft bubbles

Cleanser tube photographed cap-down in a wide water-set poster crop

Pink makeup remover bottle ringed by a magenta water splash crown

Two rinse-off products tied together by one element: water. A white amino acid cleanser tube floats on a calm blue ripple set, while a pink makeup remover gets a full magenta splash crown built for poster use across its launch channels. More work from this category lives in our cosmetics photography services page.

The brief covered two products that both live at the sink: a gentle daily cleanser and a makeup removing toner. Rather than two unrelated setups, we designed one visual system where water carries the story, then pushed each product to a different intensity of the same idea.

Photography Challenges

1. Separating a white tube from a bright set. A white bottle on a pale water background loses its edges fast. The product needs a defined contour without a hard outline that looks cut out.

2. Timing a usable splash crown. Water thrown at a bottle gives one chaotic frame in fifty. The crown has to ring the product symmetrically and keep the label dry enough to read.

3. Keeping two products in one color story. Blue ripples for the cleanser and hot magenta for the remover sit far apart; the shared water language is what stops the pair from looking like two campaigns.

Our Approach

Ripple set with edge control

The cleanser stands in a shallow tray over a blue gradient surface, lit from behind-left so the water sparkles but the tube keeps a thin shaded edge on its right side. Bubbles were added by hand between frames and composited for placement.

Splash crown rig

For the remover we threw tinted water across the bottle from both sides at once and fired short-duration strobes at the collision point. The selected frame keeps the crown open at the top, so the cap and label stay legible inside it.

Unified retouch grade

Both sets share one contrast curve and highlight rolloff, so the magenta frame and the blue frames sit side by side on a campaign page without fighting.

"Water is a prop with no patience. You design the ninety percent you can control, then shoot enough frames to catch the ten percent you cannot." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you shoot water splash product photos?

With short-duration strobes, a tinted-water rig and volume. We control the set, throw direction and timing, then pick the one frame where the splash geometry flatters the product.

Can white products stay readable on bright water sets?

Yes, if you light the background for brightness and the product for edge. A thin shaded contour on the off-light side keeps the bottle from dissolving into the set.

Do splash images work for e-commerce main images?

They belong in secondary, poster and A+ slots. Main images stay clean white; the splash frames do the emotional work further down the page.

Selling rinse-off products that need energy in the frame?

Send the range and its channels. We will design the water language, from calm ripple sets to full splash posters, sized to each slot.
