A hand-and-foot scrub pair shot two ways: a splash crown frame with the open jar levitating to show its golden gel, and a quiet white-plinth set where a tilted third jar lets the formula sell itself without a word of copy. See more of this category in our cosmetics photography collection.

Exfoliating gel has two jobs in a photograph: prove it is fresh and prove it has texture. The splash frame handles freshness with a water crown and a floating open jar; the plinth set slows everything down so buyers can study the golden gel and its suspended particles.
| Project Overview | |
|---|---|
| Product type | Hand and foot exfoliating scrub, 200g jars, golden gel |
| Deliverables | Splash crown hero and three-jar plinth set |
| Shoot location | AIMI studio, Guangzhou |
| Styling | Water crown with levitation; white cubic risers |
| Usage | Campaign hero, listing slots and social placements |
Photography Challenges
1. Freezing a crown around a floating jar. The open jar has to hover inside a symmetrical water crown with its gel surface undisturbed. Two chaos elements, one frame, and the label must stay readable.
2. Making gel translucency read. Golden gel with fine particles goes muddy under frontal light. The formula needs transmitted light so it glows and the exfoliant grains stay visible.
3. Keeping a tilted open jar believable. The texture jar leans toward camera with no lid and no spill. Real gel obeys gravity; the lean angle is a negotiation with viscosity.
Our Approach
Two-layer splash composite
The sealed jar stands in the splash zone while the open jar is shot separately on a hidden support, gel pre-swirled. Water was thrown to crown around the sealed jar, and the open jar composited into the crown gap with matched droplets on its rim.
Backlit gel discipline
On the plinth set a low backlight behind the tilted jar transmits through the gel, so it reads honey-gold instead of brown. Front fill is flagged off the label to keep print crisp.
Viscosity-tested lean
We chilled the gel to raise viscosity, then leaned the jar to the steepest angle the surface would hold. The swirl pattern was set with a palette knife after positioning, so the texture looks freshly opened.
"Splash work is 90 percent rig and 10 percent luck. Build the rig so the lucky frame has somewhere good to land." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you photograph gel or scrub textures?
With transmitted light and viscosity control. Backlighting makes gel glow and keeps particles visible; chilling lets us lean or shape the product without it slumping.
Can you combine splash effects with levitation?
Yes, as a planned composite: the splash is captured around the physical product, the floating element is shot separately on a support, and the two are blended with matched droplets and light.
Do water crowns work for personal care listings?
They are strong secondary and brand-slot frames: they signal rinse-off freshness instantly. The main listing image stays a clean sealed-jar shot.
A texture product that deserves more than a flat packshot?
Send the SKUs. We will plan the splash hero for freshness and the quiet set where the formula does the selling.
