About This Cosmetics Photography Project

The Challenge

A beauty brand needed a comprehensive product photography session covering multiple SKUs across different product categories — from a men's cologne bottle with architectural glass design to a women's loose setting powder compact. Each product required its own visual treatment that matched its target audience and packaging aesthetic, yet the overall image set needed to feel cohesive enough to represent a single brand portfolio. The cologne demanded clean, masculine presentation while the powder compact needed to showcase both the packaging engineering and the product texture inside.

Our Creative Approach

We structured the shoot around product-specific visual strategies while maintaining consistent technical quality throughout. Each item received both a clean catalog shot and a creative composition designed for marketing use.

• Cologne hero shot — centered on white with subtle reflection, emphasizing the architectural bottle design and navy blue metallic band branding
• Powder compact deconstructed — components separated (puff, lid with mirror, base with powder) on a diagonal two-tone background, showing the product's engineering and contents simultaneously
• Powder dramatic spotlight — open compact against pure black with a focused beam of light, creating a theatrical reveal of the pressed powder surface pattern and loose powder beneath

Lighting and Technical Execution

The cologne bottle presented the classic challenge of photographing transparent glass with metallic elements — requiring careful light placement to show the bottle's form through refraction while keeping the navy blue band saturated and legible. We used strip softboxes at 45-degree angles with a white scrim behind to create clean gradients through the glass. For the powder compact flat-lay, a large overhead diffusion panel provided even illumination across the diagonal two-tone surface, with the cream and charcoal background creating natural contrast zones. The dramatic spotlight shot used a single focused beam from above with all ambient light eliminated, creating the theatrical reveal effect that draws the eye directly to the powder texture and perforated pattern detail.

Results and Application

The multi-product session delivered a complete visual library covering both e-commerce requirements and brand marketing needs. The cologne white-background shot serves as the primary marketplace listing image, while the powder compact's deconstructed view has become the key product detail image showing customers exactly what they receive. The dramatic spotlight composition anchors the brand's premium positioning on social media and retail displays. By shooting multiple products in a single session with consistent quality standards, the client achieved significant cost efficiency while building a cohesive brand visual language across their diverse product range.
