Gold Leaf Jelly Lipstick Product Photography

The product is a transparent jelly lipstick with decorative metal leaf suspended in the gel: amber bullets with gold flakes in mirror gold tubes, and clear bullets with silver flakes in chrome tubes, sold in four tip-cut variants. The client wanted styled frames that make the gel clarity and the mirror sleeves read as one premium object. All 3 frames were styled and photographed at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China, and delivered under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Mirror metal and clear gel need two exposures in one frame. Gold and chrome sleeves flare under the same light that makes the gel glow; expose for the metal and the bullet goes dark, expose for the gel and the sleeve blows to white. Black flags cut one controlled dark line into each sleeve while a low rear light lifts the bullets from behind, and the recipe is locked before frame 1.

2. Four bullets, four tip cuts, one alignment. The variant story of the line, crystal point, slant, taper and facet, only reads if every bullet is twisted up to the same reference height and faces the lens square. One bullet a half-turn off and the row looks like a used tester shelf, so each tube is set against a marked template.

3. Suspended flakes settle. Gold and silver leaf drifts in the gel over hours, so frames shot late would show flakes pooled at the base. Bullets are extended and shot within about 10 minutes, tallest unit first.

4. Peach on peach separation. The apricot backdrop is close in tone to the warm gel, so separation has to come from light, not contrast: a faint rim traces each bullet edge and the plinth edges stay a crisp 255 white.

Our Approach

The four-variant hero row.

Frame 1 lines all 4 tubes silver, gold, gold, silver with staggered heights so the row reads as a designed set, not a lineup. The 100mm macro at f/11 keeps every tube sharp end to end, and the symmetric order shows all four tip cuts in one read.

The open-bullet detail.

Frame 2 singles out the gold-tube unit with its cap off and the retail carton standing behind. A black flag right of frame cuts the dark line into the gold sleeve, and the square champagne base anchors the corner of the white plinth.

The two-tone set build.

Frame 3 pairs the peach-base and off-white-base units on two-tier plinths with a fluted white sheet and a frosted glass sphere. Every prop stays matte and white so the mirror tubes own every highlight in the frame.

Post-production and delivery.

Retouching cleaned dust off the mirror sleeves, left flake positions exactly as shot, and locked all 3 frames to the same peach value. Final files were delivered as 2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
