Black VR headset with silver trim at a floating three-quarter angle

White colorway of the same headset in the identical composition

Two frames for a smartphone VR headset in its black and white retail colorways: one floating three-quarter composition, captured twice under identical light, showing straps, padding and ventilation in a single readable view, aligned so the pair compares cleanly on the listing page.

This headset sells in black and white, and the listing needed the pair to compare cleanly. The camera was locked on a floating three-quarter angle that carries the front door, strap system and crown padding in one frame; the black unit was shot, then the white unit was walked into the same marks, and the two files align to the pixel.

Photography Challenges

1. Straps refuse to cooperate. Elastic head straps collapse into a heap without support. The headset was mounted on a hidden acrylic form with straps tensioned and taped into their natural worn shape, so both frames show the full strap geometry rather than a product wearing a pile of webbing.

2. Black shell, white shell, one page. The two colorways sit at opposite ends of the tonal scale. Fill was trimmed per unit so the black shell keeps texture in its vents and the white shell holds its trim detail, at matched perceived brightness.

3. Padding texture is the quality cue. The faux-leather crown cushion is what buyers equate with comfort. A low raking fill was added to bring out its grain in both frames without disturbing the clean white background.

Our Approach

Styled on a hidden form

An acrylic head form held the headset at wearing height with straps tensioned. The form disappears in retouch and the product reads as if worn, which flat lays never achieve for headgear.

Locked geometry for the pair

Camera, lights and marks were fixed between colorways. Buyers comparing the two frames are comparing the product, not the photography.

Retouch for hygiene only

Support removal, dust, and strap-edge cleanup. Plastics, printed logos and padding texture were left as captured to keep the pair honest.

"Headgear photographed flat looks like roadkill. Give it a head, tension the straps, and suddenly the buyer is imagining wearing it. That imagined moment is what the hero frame is for." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you photograph headsets and wearables?

On a hidden form, with straps or bands tensioned into their worn shape. Flat lays collapse the geometry and undersell the product; a form keeps the shape honest and the form itself is removed in retouch.

Can both colorways be shot in one session?

Yes, in the same locked setup. The camera and lights stay fixed while units swap through taped marks, so the pair aligns perfectly and the session stays short.

Do you show strap and padding details?

Yes. Padding texture and adjustment hardware are comfort cues buyers look for, so they get their own raking light and, where needed, a dedicated detail frame.

Wearables that collapse on the table?

We shoot them on hidden forms in their worn shape, in every colorway, in one locked setup. Send the range and we will return pairs that compare perfectly.
