White and silver foldable headphones floated at a three-quarter angle

Graphite black colorway of the same headphones, identical angle

Two frames for one foldable on-ear headphone in its two retail colorways: a floating three-quarter product angle, shot once and repeated exactly, so buyers comparing white and graphite see the same product in the same light, aligned down to the pixel.

Headphone buyers compare colorways side by side, and any difference in angle or lighting reads as a difference in the product. This session locked a single floating three-quarter composition, shot the white unit, then swapped in the graphite unit against taped alignment marks so the pair intercuts perfectly on the listing.

Photography Challenges

1. One product is bright, one is dark. The white shell and the graphite shell sit stops apart in brightness. A single exposure would gray the white or crush the black, so each colorway got its own fine-tuned fill level while the key light and camera stayed untouched.

2. Showing the fold without unfolding. The three-quarter angle was chosen because it carries the earcup yokes, headband hinge points and control buttons in one view, letting a single frame answer most pre-purchase questions.

3. A clean float. The headphones appear suspended, which means the support was a hidden acrylic stand removed in retouch. The soft shadow under the product was preserved so the float reads intentional rather than cut-out.

Our Approach

Locked composition, taped marks

Camera, lights and product position were fixed and marked before the first frame. The colorway swap took minutes and the two files align to the pixel.

Per-unit exposure trim

Fill was raised slightly for the graphite unit and pulled back for the white, holding both shells at the same perceived brightness with texture intact in the cushions and grilles.

Retouch limited to support removal

The acrylic support was painted out and dust cleaned; plastics, metal hinge trim and cushion weave were left exactly as photographed.

"Colorway pairs are a promise to the buyer: same product, your choice of color. Keeping that promise is a discipline of locked setups, not a retouch trick." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match multiple colorways exactly?

Yes. We lock the camera, lighting and product marks, then swap units through the unchanged setup. Every colorway shares one geometry and light, so customers compare colors, not photography.

How many angles does a headphone listing need?

A strong set covers a floating three-quarter hero, a folded frame, a cushion detail and a controls detail. Two to four disciplined frames answer most buyer questions; we plan the shot list around what the listing must prove.

Do floating product shots look natural?

When the support is removed cleanly and the contact shadow is kept, yes. A gentle shadow under the product is what separates a deliberate float from a cutout sticker look.

Two colorways, or twenty?

The locked-setup method scales. Send the range and we will return a gallery where every color sits in the same light, at the same angle, ready for side-by-side selling.
