Three audio products from one session: a gold-cone three-piece hi-fi, a retro desktop speaker with metal knobs, and a battery party speaker photographed powered on so its LED ring and lit display carry the frame, each with its own angle logic on one shared sweep.

Each of these speakers sells a different promise, so each got its own framing logic on the same sweep: the hi-fi shot square to show the trio layout, the retro unit at a three-quarter that shows off its gold control plate, and the party speaker powered on at a high angle where its glowing ring and mixer deck carry the frame.
| Project Overview | |
|---|---|
| Product type | Mini hi-fi kit, retro Bluetooth speaker, party PA speaker |
| Deliverables | One hero frame per product |
| Shoot location | AIMI studio, Guangzhou |
| Styling | Seamless white; PA speaker powered for LED glow |
| Usage | Catalog, marketplace listings and retail materials |
Photography Challenges
1. One sweep, three personalities. A catalog session stays efficient when the background and key light never move, but each product still needs its own angle logic. Camera height and product orientation changed per unit while the lighting plan stayed constant.
2. A glowing ring that exposures fight. The party speaker’s LED ring blows out at product-lighting exposures. The frame was captured for the cabinet first, with the LEDs photographed within their dynamic range, so the ring glows with color instead of clipping to white.
3. Texture is the spec sheet. Leatherette wrap, perforated gold grille and brushed mixer plate are how buyers judge speaker quality. Each got a light direction that lets its texture read at thumbnail size, where most of these frames will actually be seen.
Our Approach
Per-product angle logic
The hi-fi went square and symmetrical; the retro speaker took a three-quarter that shows top plate and grille together; the PA unit went high to bring the mixer deck into frame. One lighting plan served all three.
Powered-on capture
The PA speaker was shot running: display lit, LED ring glowing. Exposure was set to hold both the matte cabinet and the illuminated elements without composites.
Texture-first flagging
A raking fill was flagged per product to skim its signature surface, leatherette, grille mesh or brushed plate, so the material story survives even at small sizes.
"Speakers all promise the same thing and look nearly identical at a glance. The frame’s job is to make the materials argue the difference: grille, plate, wrap and light, each saying what the product costs before the buyer reads a word." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you photograph speakers with their lights on?
Yes. Powered frames are exposed to hold both the cabinet and the illuminated elements, so LED rings and displays glow with real color. It takes metering discipline but avoids the fake look of retouched light.
How do you show audio quality in a still image?
Through materials. Grille mesh, control plates, cone finish and cabinet wrap are what buyers use as quality proxies, so we light each signature texture deliberately rather than flattening the product under one soft source.
Can different products share one session?
Yes. One sweep and one key plan stay fixed; camera angle and fill change per product. That keeps a multi-product catalog consistent without forcing every item into the same composition.
Speakers that all look the same online?
Send the range. We will give each model its own angle logic and texture story, inside one consistent catalog setup.
