Eight frames for a marinated seafood small plates line: octopus, shrimp, shellfish and squid across dark slate and pale sets, dressed at the last moment so the marinade gloss survives the frame, shot for a local snacks menu at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China. The product is a marinated seafood small plates line: octopus, shrimp, shellfish and squid in chili oil marinades. The menu needed two moods, so the plates shoot across dark slate for the drama reads and a pale set for the clean reads, with the marinade gloss carried through both. All 8 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges
1. Marinade gloss dulls fast. Chili oil loses its sheen as it settles. The plates are dressed at the last moment and shot inside the gloss window.
2. Dark seafood on dark slate disappears. The octopus and squid sit in the same tonal range as the slate. A rear rim light separates the plate edge and a skim highlight bands the marinade.
3. Two moods, one menu. The dark and pale sets could split the page. The plate style and the marinade dressing stay constant so both reads land in the same menu.
Our Approach
Dark drama block.
Frames 01, 03, 06-07 work the dark slate: octopus, shellfish, squid and the single hero with the chili oil drizzle.
Pale clean block.
Frames 02 and 05 switch to the pale set: the shrimp plate and the trio read.
Gloss detail and group.
Frames 04 and 08 finish with the marinade macro and the full range group.
Post-production and delivery.
Retouching held the gloss highlights, matched the two grades, and delivered 2000x2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
