Transparent Cat Grooming Hood Product Photography

This project features professional studio photography for breathable transparent cat anti-bite hoods, designed to safely prevent scratches and bites during cat bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and routine pet care. Shot by June (Product Photography Team Lead) at AIMI's in-house Guangzhou studio for a global pet supplies brand, all images are optimized for Amazon, Chewy, Shopify, and DTC e-commerce use.

Project Overview

Photography Challenges

1. Transparent material reflection control: Clear PC plastic easily picks up harsh studio light reflections and hot spots, requiring precise diffusion to show the spherical shape and full ventilation hole design without glare.
2. Product function clarity: For shoppers, it is critical to clearly show both the product structure (hole pattern, snap-fit base) and real-world usage scenario to demonstrate effectiveness in preventing scratches during grooming.
3. Comfort messaging: Unlike rigid cones, this hood is designed to be breathable and low-stress for cats. Lifestyle shots needed to show cats wearing it calmly, to reduce buyer concern about pet resistance or discomfort.
4. Dual material exposure balance: Fully clear plastic paired with a matte black base requires exact exposure settings to avoid washing out thin plastic edges while keeping the black base deep and true to color.

Our Approach

White Background Product Shots

We used a 3-light Profoto setup with large octaboxes and a dedicated light table to eliminate harsh reflections on the clear plastic. A subtle natural bottom shadow was retained to give the product depth instead of looking artificially cut out from the background. Front-on and top-down angles were shot to fully demonstrate the ventilation layout and structural design, optimized for Amazon main listing images.

Lifestyle Scene Shots

Two warm, minimal home sets were built: a light wicker chair with neutral off-white background, and a realistic living room scene with light wood cabinet and soft home decor. We worked with two professionally trained, calm cat models (silver British Shorthair and white Scottish Fold) to show the product in actual use during daily care and interaction, capturing natural relaxed postures that convey comfort rather than stress.

Post-Production & Retouching

Retouching included careful reflection cleanup, color calibration to ensure plastic appears clear (not cloudy or blue-tinted), micro-scratch removal, and Amazon-compliant background optimization. All images were delivered in both 16-bit TIFF (master files for advertising) and 2000px sRGB JPEG (pre-optimized for fast e-commerce loading).
