Gongfu Tea Set Photography

The client sells the whole ceremony, not a teapot: carved trays that drain, zisha clay that seasons, tea pets that get fed. AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China shot 7 images in our Guangzhou studio: the complete station with its electric kettle module, the dragon-tray set with money toad and monk tea pets, the slate-and-bamboo drainage tray with its rearing horse, the hardwood tea boats with carved ruyi aprons, and the artisan ceramic pieces, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Dark on dark is the genre's trap. Black clay on a black tray on a black table: three blacks that merge into mud. We light low-key but separate each plane: a sheen line on the tray's gloss, a soft wrap on the matte clay, the table falling to true black behind.

2. The ceremony must look mid-use. An untouched tea set is furniture. Cups hold actual tea, the gaiwan lid sits ajar, the brush rests on the cloth: signs of a session in progress, because gongfu buyers buy the ritual, not the objects.

3. Tea pets are the personality. Money toad, little monks, the rearing horse: these sell the culture. We give each its own light and space in the composition, not scattered as afterthoughts.

4. Carving needs raking light. Dragon scales and ruyi aprons disappear under soft light. A low raking source drags shadows across the relief: the handwork reads as depth, not printed texture.
