Blue Line Gaiwan Tea Photography

The client sells white porcelain gaiwan sets and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to shoot the line for online listings: the 3-piece lidded bowls with their thin cobalt pinstripes. We shot 9 images in our Guangzhou studio on the dark tea-table set: the gaiwan assembled on its woven coaster, the lid off, the bowl inverted to show its foot, 3 in a row, and the brass tea tools beside, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. White porcelain in the dark. A white gaiwan on a black set can glow into a blob. We meter for the porcelain and let the background fall, so the glaze keeps its texture and the cobalt pinstripes stay hair-thin.

2. The 3 pieces must disassemble on camera. Bowl, lid, saucer: buyers of gaiwan count the parts. We shoot the set assembled, then opened, then inverted, so the construction is proven in frames, not in bullet points.

3. The inverted bowl is the kiln frame. Turning the bowl over shows the foot ring and the red seal: the details collectors actually check. It is a small frame that does the work of a certificate.

4. Brass tools extend the story. The tea tongs holding a cup, the needle beside the leaves: the tools show how the ware is handled, and they warm the dark set with a second material.

Assembled and Trio

The main frames show the gaiwan whole on its woven coaster, and 3 in a row for the set count. Warm key light from the side, black backdrop behind, green leaves just entering the edge.

Disassembled Details

The detail frames take the set apart: lid leaning, bowl tipped beside it, bowl inverted with the foot ring and red seal forward. These are the frames that convert collectors.

Tool Frames

The brass tongs lift a small cup, the tea needle lies by the leaves, and the woven caddy carries its gold cord: the ritual around the bowl, photographed with the same low-key discipline.

Retouching

All 9 frames keep the porcelain honest: whites luminous, blue lines crisp, blacks deep, and the brass warm. Files went out at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, ready for Amazon listings and A+ Content.
