The product is a convertible 108-bead mala in polished deep red hardwood with a braided tie cord, worn wrapped on the wrist or as a necklace. The brief asked for quiet, low-key imagery that lets the wood and the count speak. All frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges

1. Deep red beads on black need edge logic. Dark beads on a black surface read as one mass. A low raking key from the rear quarter draws each bead's edge highlight, separating the strand without brightening the whole set.

2. A long strand needs architecture. 108 beads sprawl without structure. The strand is laid in a measured spiral with the guru bead at the anchor point, so the eye travels the strand deliberately.

3. Very dark frames must stay printable. The set includes genuinely low-key frames. Exposure is tuned so shadows stay just above print-black, keeping bead detail available when the buyer's screen is dimmer than ours.

Our Approach

Spiral hero frames.

Opening frames present the full strand in its spiral architecture on the black surface, guru bead anchored.

Wrap and wear context.

Middle frames show the mala wrapped as a bracelet and held in hand, giving the convertible use its proof.

Texture and cord macros.

Closing frames isolate the wood grain, braided cord and tassel work with the 100mm macro.

"A mala is counted, not just worn. The photography should feel as deliberate as the practice it serves." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a mala set like this priced?

Styled creative frames start at $35 per image under our Growth package, with set building and retouching included. All rates are starting prices, and the final quote depends on your requirements.

How long does the session take?

This set was delivered inside our standard 5-7 business day window: strand layout templates first, then the shoot, then retouching.

Can you keep dark wood detailed on dark sets?

Yes. Raking light and shadow-floor control keep beads separated and readable, and files ship at 2000x2000px sRGB.

Can you photograph other mala materials the same way?

Yes. The low-key recipe carries across wood, seed and stone strands with per-material light tuning.
