Liquid Eyebrow Pen Product Photography

The product is a liquid brow and eyeliner pen line in two packagings: champagne gold dual-ended barrels and white fine-tip barrels with gold trim. A pen like this is bought on one promise — line quality — so every frame demonstrates it: uncapped tips in working positions and real product swatches drawn on set. The 4 frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China on a warm nude set, with no people involved.

Photography Challenges

1. A slim pen disappears without a reflection plan. A polished gold barrel half an inch wide mirrors the entire studio: walls, stands, the photographer. Uncontrolled, the pen reads as a striped tube. Each barrel gets one long soft gradient from a flagged softbox, so the only line on the gold is the one we placed.

2. The selling point is a millimeter of felt tip. Buyers judge a liquid pen by its nib, and the nib is 1-2mm. Frames 1 and 2 uncap one pen per group and place the tip in the front plane, shot with the 100mm macro at f/8, so the fine point and the angled chisel are both readable at listing size.

3. A drawn swatch has to look like product, not ink stain. The zig-zag and squiggle swatches on set prove line quality, but a sloppy stroke reads as dirt. Each swatch is drawn in one continuous pull with the actual pen, re-done until the line weight stays even end to end.

4. Gold on nude needs separation by temperature, not contrast. Champagne barrels on a warm nude set share one hue family. We kept the set a half stop deeper and slightly less saturated, so the metal reads warmer and brighter than the ground it sits on.

Our Approach

Working-group compositions.

Frames 1-3 arrange the pens in capped-and-uncapped groups: parallel capped rows for the retail read, one open pen angled forward with its cap beside it for the in-use read, and in frame 2 one pen touches the surface mid-stroke beside its drawn swatch. The two packagings, gold dual-ended and white fine-tip, each get their own group so a shopper can tell the lines apart.

Mirror and swatch proof.

Frame 4 lays a single uncapped pen across a gold-rimmed round mirror, with a thin black squiggle running straight from the nib. The mirror gives the frame a vanity context without props, and the squiggle answers the only question that matters: how fine is the line.

Post-production and delivery.

Retouching cleaned fingerprints from the polished barrels (mirror metal records every touch), kept the gold warm without going orange, and graded all 4 frames to one nude family. Delivered as 2000px sRGB JPG plus WebP.
