About This Men's Skincare Photography Project
The Challenge
A men's grooming brand needed product photography for their CC Cream launch that would stand out in the increasingly competitive men's cosmetics market. The product features bold geometric packaging in graduated blues — designed to appeal to male consumers who might be new to color-correcting products. The client required both clean e-commerce shots showing the product clearly and a premium lifestyle composition that would elevate the brand perception beyond typical men's skincare imagery. The photography needed to communicate sophistication and technology without alienating first-time male cosmetics buyers.
Our Creative Approach
We developed two contrasting visual treatments to serve different marketing channels. The first setup used a clean white background with dynamic product angles and a texture swatch to communicate product information clearly. The second setup shifted to a dramatic dark-field environment with architectural glass elements, transforming the same tube into a premium, aspirational object.

Lighting and Technical Execution
The white-background shot used even, soft lighting to accurately render the blue gradient packaging and geometric triangle pattern without color shifts. We positioned the tubes at complementary angles to show both the front label and overall form factor simultaneously. The cream swatch was carefully squeezed in a zigzag pattern to demonstrate texture while keeping the composition clean. For the dark-field lifestyle shot, we employed edge lighting and rim highlights to define the tube silhouettes against the black background. The vertical glass panels created natural reflections and light refractions that added visual complexity. A polished black surface beneath provided mirror-like reflections, doubling the visual impact of each element.
Results and Application
The dual-approach photography gave the brand versatile assets for their multi-channel launch. The white-background shot with texture swatch became the primary Amazon and Tmall listing image, directly addressing the key purchase barrier for men's CC cream — uncertainty about the product's actual appearance. The dark-field composition anchors the brand's social media presence and retail display materials, positioning the product alongside premium men's grooming brands. The dramatic lighting treatment has since become the visual signature for the brand's entire product line expansion.
