Nine frames for two metal flash drive SKUs, slim silver and embossed rose gold: desk flat lays with laptops and coffee for the working buyer, pastel paper sets for the gift buyer, one coordinated campaign from a two-person styling kit in a single session.

The same drive sells to two different people: the practical buyer who wants it on a desk next to a laptop, and the gift buyer who wants it next to a ribbon. This session built both worlds for both colorways, alternating the silver and rose gold units across desk scenes and pastel sets so each SKU has a full story.

Photography Challenges
1. Two SKUs, two moods, one session. Desk scenes and pastel sets want different light: neutral and directional versus soft and bright. The day was split into two lighting blocks so neither set compromised, and drives rotated through both.
2. Etched logos on polished metal. The brand etching is shallow and disappears under flat light. A low raking accent was added per frame so the etched wordmark reads without burning the mirror finish around it.
3. Flat lays expose weak composition. Overhead sets have no depth to hide behind. Every prop was placed on a spacing template with the drive as the anchor, then the frame was checked for visual weight before capture.
Our Approach
Two lighting blocks
Desk scenes ran neutral with a defined key; pastel sets ran soft and bright. Splitting the day into two blocks kept both moods honest instead of averaging them into mush.
Raking light for the etch
A small flagged source skimmed the drive surface in each frame, bringing the shallow etching up cleanly while the mirror finish kept its gradient.
Template-driven flat lays
Props were arranged on measured spacing templates with the product anchoring the composition. The template discipline is what makes nine frames feel like one campaign.
"A small product multiplies when you give each buyer their own scene. Shoot the desk for the practical customer and the ribbon for the gift customer, in the same session, and one SKU becomes two campaigns." — June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions
Can one product get two styling directions in a session?
Yes. We split the day into lighting blocks and run every SKU through both sets. A practical desk story and a gift story for the same drive costs little more than one and doubles the campaign material.
How do you keep etched logos readable on polished metal?
With a low raking accent light aimed across the surface. The shallow etch catches the light and reads clearly while the mirror finish around it keeps its smooth gradient.
What makes a flat lay look professional?
Spacing discipline. Props go down on measured templates with the product as the anchor, and the frame is checked for visual balance before capture. Overhead scenes show every compositional weakness, so we remove them on set.
One SKU, two kinds of buyer?
Send the product and the audience list. We will style both worlds in one session and return a gallery that speaks to each of them.
