A women's comfort-footwear seller brought a slip-on walking sneaker in two colorways: a black engineered-knit version and a cream one, both with breathable perforated uppers and a sculpted white sole. The product's promise is light, soft and feminine, so the set had to say the same thing: tiered white geometric plinths, a pale-blue gradient backdrop, and a few light-blue artificial flower stems for air. One shoe shows the side profile while its twin rides the upper plinth to display the sole's traction pods. All 4 images were delivered in 4 business days at 2000x2000px with a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges
1. Knit mesh goes flat or goes muddy, never by accident. A knitted upper is thousands of tiny holes, and flat frontal light fills every hole with light until the weave disappears into a smooth sock. Harsh side light does the opposite: every perforation turns into a black pit and the shoe looks dusty. We used a large soft key placed just off-axis, grazing enough to give each loop of the knit a highlight edge but diffused enough to keep the holes soft. The weave reads as engineered fabric at full zoom, which is the shoe's main selling point.
2. A white sole on white plinths is a disappearing act. The sculpted sole and the set share the same white, so the shoe's outline can dissolve into the blocks it stands on. We separated them with shadow, not color: a controlled contact shadow under the sole, a slight value difference between the plinth white and the sole white kept in the grade, and the pale-blue backdrop doing the outline work at the heel. The set stays airy and the shoe keeps its silhouette.
3. Black and cream colorways want different exposure on one set. The black knit absorbs two stops more light than the cream pair, so one exposure makes one of them wrong. We kept the set and the recipe constant and trimmed exposure per colorway, then graded each to the same target brightness in post. Across the 4 frames the two colorways clearly share one set, one light and one brand mood.
4. Airy props have to stay props. Flower stems near a pale product on a pale set can pull the eye if they are too sharp or too saturated. We kept the flowers at the frame edge, slightly behind the product plane and a touch softer in focus, with their blue matched to the backdrop rather than to a real flower. They add the fresh note the brief asked for and never compete with the knit.
Our Approach
Tiered plinths that do two jobs at once
The stepped white blocks are composition and merchandising together: the lower shoe carries the side profile, the upper shoe tilts to show the sculpted sole and its traction pods. One arrangement answers the two questions a walking-shoe buyer asks, what does it look like on, and what does the grip look like, in a single frame.
A soft recipe tuned for knit
The light is one large diffused key from the front-left, a gentle fill from the right, and no hard accent anywhere: this product sells softness, so the shadows stay soft too. The key is angled just enough to rake the knit and give the weave its highlight edge. The pale-blue backdrop is lit separately so its gradient stays smooth behind the plinths.
Post-production: whites sorted, weave protected
Three whites live in these frames, plinth, sole and backdrop glow, and they are graded to three close but distinct values so the layers never merge. The knit gets a small local-contrast pass to keep the loops crisp, lint and dust on the fabric are cleaned fiber by fiber, and the flowers stay where they were placed. Delivery at 2000x2000px, ready for Amazon, DTC and social crops.
"Knit is honest fabric: it shows exactly the light you give it. Skim it and the weave appears, flatten it and the shoe turns into a sock." — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a two-colorway knit sneaker set priced?
The 4 styled frames here are in the Growth tier starting at $35 per image, so the set starts around $140, covering both colorways. White-background versions for marketplace main slots can be added from $12 per image. All rates are starting prices; the final quote depends on your shot list.
How do you light mesh uppers so the weave shows?
With a large soft key placed just off-axis. Flat frontal light fills every perforation with light and the weave disappears, while hard side light turns each hole into a black pit. The grazing-but-diffused middle ground gives each loop of the knit a highlight edge, so the fabric reads as engineered mesh at full zoom.
Will the white sole vanish against the white plinths?
No, because we separate whites by value and shadow rather than color. A controlled contact shadow sits under the sole, the plinth white and the sole white are graded to slightly different values, and the pale-blue backdrop draws the heel outline. The set stays airy while the shoe keeps its silhouette.
Can black and cream colorways share one set?
Yes. Both colorways here were shot on the same plinth set with the same lighting recipe, with only per-colorway exposure trims between them. One set for all colorways is what keeps a comfort line looking like one brand, and it keeps the per-image cost down.
How fast can a four-frame knit sneaker set be delivered?
This set was delivered in 4 business days from product arrival, including set styling and retouching. Two-colorway still-life sets usually run 4 to 6 business days. Tell us your launch date and we will schedule backwards from it.
Do the flowers and plinths come from your studio?
Yes. The geometric plinths and floral accents are studio prop stock, and we color-match the accents to your brand palette before the session. If your packaging or a signature prop belongs in frame, send it with the shoes and we will style around it.
What files and license cover a knit sneaker set?
You receive 2000x2000px masters plus web-ready exports under a full commercial license covering Amazon, DTC, ads and social, with no per-platform fees. Print-resolution versions for lookbooks or packaging inserts are available on request.
