Hair Dryer Product Photography

COOLISS, a Chinese personal care appliance brand, commissioned AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to build a creative campaign set for its high-speed hair dryer. The corded dryer pairs a matte body with a chrome intake ring and ships with a concentrator nozzle, in 3 colorways: navy, blue-red gradient, and matte black. All 5 deliverables are custom set builds from our Guangzhou studio: an ice block for the cool-shot concept, a chrome robotic hand with a ring light, an acrylic sphere with a glowing ring, neon light trails, and a glowing platform with ice crystals, produced under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. A matte dark body disappears on a dark set. The navy and black colorways sit within about a stop of the background tone. Without disciplined edge light the dryer turns into a silhouette with a logo, so every set builds its rim or reflected edge line before any prop light goes on.

2. Chrome reflects the whole studio. The robotic hand and the intake ring act as mirrors: every light stand and softbox edge prints onto the metal. The set has to be arranged so the chrome only sees large clean surfaces, or the metal reads as a map of the room.

3. Ice has a working window. A real ice block clouds, cracks, and slumps as it warms, and every melt line changes how it refracts the backlight. The ice scene allows about 20 minutes of clean shooting per setup before the surface goes milky.

4. Three colorways, one campaign. Navy, gradient, and matte black bodies meter differently under identical lights. The black body needs about a stop more edge light than the navy one, so each colorway carries its own exposure note and the set itself never moves.

Our Approach

Ice and Crystal Scenes

For the cool-shot concept the dryer sits inside a clear ice block with a strip softbox behind it, so light passes through the block and the internal fractures glow while the black set keeps the product edges clean. The dryer goes in as a prepped display unit, not a powered one, and the concentrator nozzle rests beside it so the accessory reads in the same frame. The matte black colorway stands on a glowing blue disc with ice-crystal props at its flanks; the disc light sits low so the reflection under the dryer anchors it to the surface.

Chrome and Light-Ring Builds

Chrome photographs as whatever it reflects, so the robotic-hand set is walled with white diffusion panels: the metal then reads as clean gradients instead of a map of the studio. The ring light behind the product doubles as prop and rim light, dimmed to about 1 stop under the key so it glows without flaring into the barrel. All frames were shot at 1/160s, f/8, ISO 100, the same exposure discipline across all 5 sets, which keeps the colorways comparable in the grade.

Post-Production and Retouching

All 5 frames grade to one cool master: white balance locked at 4800K, -15 highlight recovery on the chrome speculars, and 0.5px output sharpening. Dust and fingerprints on the matte bodies were cleaned at 200% zoom, and the 3 colorways were matched for saturation and contrast within DeltaE 2 so the campaign reads as one shoot. Files were delivered at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, sized for Amazon image slots and A+ Content modules.
