Photography Challenges

1. Round face rugs without distortion. The lion and tiger faces depend on even spacing between the eyes, mane, and border. Shooting from too low or too wide an angle stretches the circle and makes the face look lopsided. We kept the camera square to the rug center for overhead views and applied modest perspective correction so the animal face stayed friendly and accurate.

2. Showing pile and weave in dark rugs. Charcoal and dark-gray flatweave or low-pile rugs can read as a flat dark shape, hiding the stitched ribbed border and pile direction. We used soft side daylight from the windows and gentle bounce to lift shadow detail without making the rug look gray. Diagonal living-room views also let the edge lines describe the weave.

3. Separating two product lines while keeping one collection. The animal-face rugs needed playful kids rooms, while the solid rugs needed calmer living-room corners. We matched each design to an appropriate set: teepees, toys, and bedrooms for the animal rugs; sofas, desks, and cube shelves for the solids. Shared soft daylight and neutral floor tones kept the full set visually connected.

4. Color control across bright and neutral designs. The rainbow-arc rug had brown, caramel, mustard, sky blue, and navy clusters that had to stay distinct from the charcoal and cream solids. We balanced exposure for the rug first, then let the room styling fall into a natural supporting range. Retouching checked neutrals against the white walls and sheer curtains.

Our Approach

Room-set styling.

Each rug was placed as the anchor of the scene before props were added. For the kids rugs we used a white teepee, wooden animal toys, black shelf, bunny plushies, and toy truck; for the solid rugs we used sofas, desks, chairs, and soft cushions in mint, turquoise, and pink. No people were included, keeping buyer attention on size, shape, and texture.

Daylight and framing.

We worked with soft natural window light, using sheers to diffuse it and bounce to fill the darker side of each rug. Overhead frames showed round designs and face details clearly, while diagonal frames showed rectangular rugs in a living-room layout. The camera height was chosen to show enough room context without shrinking the rug.

Retouching and Delivery.

Retouching corrected perspective, cleaned floor edges, and preserved pile and stitch detail rather than smoothing it away. Colors were balanced for sRGB and checked against the neutrals in each set. Final files were delivered as 2000x2000px JPEG quality 90 plus WebP, sized for Amazon image slots and ready for A+ Content and Shopify pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does styled rug photography cost?

Styled lifestyle scenes are $35 per image. For 12 room-set images, the calculation is 12 × $35 = $420. If the order includes 10 or more distinct SKUs, the 10% multi-SKU discount applies, bringing a 12-SKU order to $378.

What is the turnaround time?

Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days. This rug project was delivered in 6 business days after samples and shot direction were confirmed.

Are the images Amazon compliant?

The room-set images are delivered at 2000x2000px in sRGB with no people or added graphics, making them suitable for secondary Amazon image slots and A+ Content. If a listing requires a plain white-background main image, that can be added as a white-background packshot for $12 per image.

How do you show rug texture without flattening it?

We use soft daylight from the side rather than flat frontal flash. The raking light reveals pile direction and stitched borders, while sheers and bounce keep the shadows open. Overhead and diagonal angles then show both the rug face and how it sits in a room.

Do we need to be present in Guangzhou?

No. You can ship the rug samples to our Guangzhou studio and approve the set, props, and first frames remotely. We share shot lists and review images during the session so art direction can be confirmed from outside China.

Can we order matching images for new rug designs later?

Yes. We document the lighting approach, room sets, prop palette, and color pipeline for the collection. New SKUs can then be staged with the same look so listings, A+ modules, and Shopify collections remain consistent.
