LED Downlight Product Photography

The client manufactures recessed LED downlights and household bulbs and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to shoot the line for marketplace listings. We shot 10 images in our Guangzhou studio on the white sweep: the multi-lens downlight from face and fin angles, the frosted-diffuser model with its red spring clips forward, and the bulbs upright with their printed specs (220V, wattage, color temperature) sharp enough to read at full zoom, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. White plastic on white seamless. The trims and housings are the same color as the backdrop. We solve separation with light, not with fake outlines: a gridded softbox camera-left at 45 degrees models the trim ring, while a black flag just out of frame pulls a thin shadow line along the far edge, so the fixture reads as a solid object instead of a white hole.

2. Clear LED lenses blow out fast. The clear optic domes are small specular traps. We keep the key soft and slightly behind the face plane, so each lens carries a pinpoint catchlight instead of a flare patch, and the reflector cup underneath keeps its silver gradation.

3. Heat-sink fins are the engineering proof. The ribbed aluminum fins signal thermal design to trade buyers. We rake the light across the fin stack at a shallow angle, so every rib throws a thin shadow: the fin count is readable, and the housing depth is measurable in the frame.

4. Spec print must survive zoom. Buyers of bulbs check 220V, wattage, and Kelvin on the print. We shoot the print face with a 100mm macro at f/11 for edge-to-edge depth of field, so '3W 3000K' stays crisp at 200% on the marketplace zoom.

Our Approach

Face and Fin Angles

The multi-lens downlight gets 4 angles: face three-quarter, fin-side three-quarter, gimbal front, and top-down array view. Each frame answers one buyer question: what does the face look like, how deep is the housing, how many optics, how do the clips sit.

Clip-Forward Frames

The diffuser model gets its red spring clips forward in both side views. Clips are the install mechanism, so they are never hidden behind the body: trade buyers look for them first.

Bulb Spec Frames

The bulbs stand upright on the gloss white floor with a soft reflection. The print faces camera square-on at macro distance, so the wattage and color temperature read like a datasheet.

Retouching

All 10 frames keep the hardware honest: whites at 245-252 instead of clipped, silver reflectors graduated, red clips saturated to print, and dust removed at 200%. Files went out at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, ready for Amazon main-image slots.
