The client sells fully automatic push-pull locks and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China for the dark, architectural treatment the category demands. We shot 11 images in our Guangzhou studio on brushed charcoal panels: the lock diagonal for the hero, mounted vertical with its green status LED, the touch keypad lit, and tight crops of the champagne handle curve and the sensor edge, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. Black on black needs edge discipline. A matte black lock on a charcoal door is one shadow away from invisible. We rim both edges with thin flagged strips, so the lock's S-curve separates from the panel by a clean highlight line: shape by subtraction, not by brightness.

2. Metal and matte must read as different materials. The champagne handle is satin metal; the body is matte polymer. We give the handle a longitudinal gradient from a strip softbox and keep the body in flat fill: buyers read metal versus polymer from the highlight behavior alone.

3. The keypad must look asleep but ready. Push-pull locks hide their keypads until touched. We shoot the panel unlit (as buyers see it daily) and lit (as it wakes), so the gallery explains the stealth interface without a manual.

4. The green LED is the only color note. On a monochrome product, the status light is the tech story. We expose for the LED so it reads emerald, not blown white: the one pixel that says 'automatic'.

Our Approach

The Hero Frames

The lock diagonal across the brushed panel, handle curve catching the strip gradient: the A+ Content hero that sells industrial design before specs.

The Mounted Frames

Vertical on the simulated door with the thin frame gap at frame left, status LED lit: the lock as buyers will actually see it, flush and architectural.

The Detail Frames

Keypad numerals, fingerprint icon, card label, handle edge, and sensor module at close distance: the interface story at the resolution spec-sheet readers zoom to.

Retouching

All 11 frames keep the hardware honest: gradients continuous, brushed texture visible in shadows, LEDs emerald, and blacks held at 12-18 RGB (never crushed). Files went out at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, ready for Amazon listings and A+ Content.

"Dark-tech photography has 3 rules: rim the silhouette, graduate the metal, and hold the blacks. The lock sells on its curve." June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an 11-image set like this cost?

This set came to about $347 at $35 per styled image, with the 10% discount for 10 or more items applied. Plain white-background shots for main listing slots start at $12 each.

How long does the shoot take?

These 11 images were delivered in 5 business days. The panel set piece stays mounted; heroes, verticals, and details shoot in sequence.

Can dark-scene photos go on Amazon?

Yes, in the secondary slots, A+ Content, and your brand store, delivered at 2000x2000px. Main images must be the lock alone on pure white, which we add at $12 per model.

How do you photograph black hardware on a dark door?

With rim discipline: thin flagged strips trace both edges so the silhouette separates from the panel by a clean highlight line. Shape by subtraction, not by brightness.

Why shoot the keypad both asleep and lit?

Because push-pull locks hide their keypads until touched. The unlit frame is what buyers see daily; the lit frame explains the wake-up interface without a manual.

Can you add more lock models later?

Yes. The door panel set piece and lighting template stay on file, so new models match this set exactly, at the standard $12 or $35 per-image rates.
