Carved Jade Pendant Library Photography

The client deals in mid-range jade jewelry: carved leaf pendants, a peace buckle and teardrop pieces in varied green tones, mounted in 18k yellow and rose gold. The brief asked for one dark, gallery-like presentation across the library. All frames were shot at the AIMI Visual Media studio in Guangzhou, China.

Photography Challenges

1. Varied jade greens need one honest grade. Different stones shift from pale celadon to deep spinach. Each pendant is lit identically and graded against its physical reference, so the catalog shows true color differences rather than accidents.

2. Gold mounts flare on dark sets. 18k mounts catch hotspots that read as defects. The key light is softened at the mount zone with a small flag, keeping metal edges clean while the stone stays lit.

3. Translucency varies per stone. Some pendants glow, others stay dense. Backlight passes are tuned per pendant rather than one setting for all, so each stone shows its actual quality.
