AIMI Visual Media produced a 62-second street-style ad for TOTF chunky sneakers, staged on a retro subway car set. Shot at 1920x1080 on Canon 5D4 with hidden 5500K LED units and a warm film grade, the film cuts movement to the music and ships with 30-second and re-composed vertical versions in 7 to 15 business days.

TOTF positions its chunky sneakers as street fashion, and the brief was attitude, not spec sheets. We chose a retro subway car set as the main scene: warm yellow practicals, standing poles, old-school seats, and a model in an oversize suit moving freely through the car. A hype-brand film sells the feeling of wearing the shoe, so every choice, from the wide 24mm angle to the film-grade color, serves that one register.

Creative Concept
Street-fashion buyers read attitude faster than specs, so the film was built as dynamic narrative locked to the music. The first ten seconds establish the world with the environment and the model’s entrance, the middle forty show the shoe on foot from multiple angles through grabs, leg lifts, and turns timed to the drums, and the last twelve freeze on the product with the brand mark. The warm retro film grade ties the picture language to the car’s period feel, keeping the visual register consistent with the brand’s street positioning.
Production
Subway cars mix practical sources, so we first suppressed the ambient clutter with 5500K LED constant lights at CRI 95 or above, keyed the model from the front side at 1.2 to 1.5 meters, and kept the ceiling tube lights as the ambient base for atmosphere. A 24mm wide angle shot along the car’s long axis stretched the narrow space. For the movement shots we raised shutter to 1/100 second to freeze action, held f/2.8, and kept ISO under 800 for noise control. Post was rhythmic editing to the beat, a warm film grade, and subtitle packaging.
Production Challenges
1. A real car interior leaves no room for light stands. We swapped every stand for compact LED units with magnetic mounts, fixed to handrails and seat backs so the fixtures hide inside the scene itself. The lighting reads as motivated practical light rather than studio gear, and nothing breaks the retro illusion on camera.
2. Warm practicals fought our daylight-balanced lamps. Rather than force the scene neutral, we treated the warm environmental light as the base tone and fine-tuned around it on set. The grade then unified everything into a warm film look in post, so the color works with the location instead of against it.
3. Big movement meant constant defocus risk. We ran eye-detect autofocus with the operator anticipating the model’s path, and shot every action three times to pick the best take. With choreography-led footage the marginal cost of extra takes is low, while a soft frame in the final cut is unfixable.

Where the Film Lives
Social is the home turf for a hype-brand ad: Douyin and Xiaohongshu (RED) brand content slots carry the film, and the vertical version goes straight into feed ads. The horizontal master runs on the brand website and in-store screens, while the full 62 seconds also fits launch events and trade show play. The ad-spend cut and the display cut each do their own job across paid and owned placements.
For a hype brand, the most expensive thing is getting the feel right. We align references and music with the founder before any storyboard, then give the model room to move, because a good state is guided out, never posed. — June, Product Photography Team Lead
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a street-fashion ad video cost?
Product videos at AIMI start from $200 per finished video. A film like this, with a purpose-built set, choreography-led direction, and three delivery versions, is quoted by brief scope. Share your references, scene needs, and launch plan, and we return an itemized quote.
Was that a real subway car?
No. It is a retro car interior built in a studio, with shoot windows and stage fees confirmed into the quote upfront. A purpose-built set is more controllable than a real location: light, crowds, and time are all unrestricted, every setup can finish in half a day, and total cost often lands below location shooting.
How do you keep the brand tone from drifting?
We hold a creative alignment meeting before booking anything: the brand supplies reference films, music, and forbidden territory, and we return a storyboard plus grade reference frames. Shoot days are confirmed only after both sides sign off. One hour of alignment up front beats a week of rework in post, and we never skip that step.
Who handles the model and styling?
We recommend models and stylists matched to the brand register; for street style we cast models with dance or movement training, since physical expression carries this genre. Model and styling fees are itemized separately. Brands may also bring their own talent, and we handle on-set direction either way.
How is music licensing solved?
The final score uses tracks from a licensed commercial library that covers online placement. If you want a specific hit song, that needs separate licensing, and we help assess cost and channels. We advise against unlicensed tracks: platforms limit reach or remove videos when infringement is detected.
Can one video cover several colorways?
Yes. With the same model and outfit we rotate colorways through the setups and intercut them to the beat. Beyond four colorways we recommend splitting by hero color into separate films, so ad-spend data tells you clearly which one sells, and batch bookings bring the per-video cost down.
Is the vertical version just a center crop?
No. The vertical version is re-composed during the edit, with key shots re-framed individually so the model and the shoe both sit on the visual center. Completion rate on feed ads tracks directly with composition, so this step is done properly and its cost is already inside the deliverables.
How long does a fashion ad like this take?
Shooting takes one day after creative sign-off, and post delivers a first cut in 7 to 15 business days. A 48-hour rush first cut is possible. If you are chasing a launch date, start about three weeks ahead to leave room for revisions and platform review.
Can the final film carry our logo and slogan?
Yes. The closing section reserves a brand slot; send us your logo source files and we build the packaging animation. The motion style follows your VI manual, and if you do not have one, we prepare two style options for approval before compositing.
