Photography Challenges

  1. Consistent color accuracy across packaging variants: The product line uses four distinct accent colors (bright green, yellow, pink, white) across pouches, requiring precise color calibration to ensure brand colors match physical packaging exactly without oversaturation.
  2. Matte plastic + transparent container exposure balance: The matte finish stand-up pouches and semi-transparent plastic storage jar (showing freeze-dried treat pieces inside) required separate exposure layers to avoid washing out print details while keeping jar contents visible.
  3. Creative arrangement without clutter: The client requested fun, engaging flat lays that appeal to pet owners, but arrangements needed to stay clean enough for e-commerce use where product packaging must remain the clear focus.
  4. Glare control on sealed pouches: Resealable zip-lock tops and glossy printed accents on packaging easily catch studio light reflections that obscure branding and cat illustrations.

Our Approach

Colored Backdrop Product Shots

We used a 4-light Profoto setup with large softboxes and polarizing filters to eliminate glare on packaging surfaces, while preserving accurate color for all four package design variants. The signature bright lime green background was selected to match the brand's energetic identity and stand out in crowded Amazon search results, with pouches arranged in a radial knolling pattern to clearly show every flavor option at a glance.

Creative Flat Lay & Scene Shots

We built minimal, pet-themed sets using complementary color props and ingredient details (freeze-dried treat pieces, fresh ingredient accents) to communicate product quality and natural ingredients. All arrangements were composed to keep product packaging fully visible and readable, with no prop covering key branding, flavor labels or the prominent "0 additive" marketing badge shown on every pouch.

Post-Production & Retouching

Retouching included glare removal, color calibration to official brand Pantone values, minor packaging crease cleanup, and background optimization. All images were delivered in both 16-bit TIFF master files (for advertising/print use) and 2000px sRGB JPEG (pre-optimized for fast Amazon, Shopify and social media loading).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does pet food and treat packaging photography cost?

Standard white background shots for pet food and treat packaging start at $12 per image. Creative flat lays and colored background arrangement shots like this project start at $25 per image. A typical 5-image pet treat project ranges from $100–$180 depending on scene complexity and retouching requirements.

How long does pet food product photography take?

Standard pet food and treat packaging projects are completed in 3–5 business days from sample delivery to our Guangzhou studio. Rush 24-48 hour turnaround service is available for urgent product launches.

Can you photograph multiple packaging flavors with consistent color accuracy?

Yes. We use X-Rite color calibration tools and custom white balance settings for every shoot to ensure all packaging color variants match your brand's official Pantone/CMYK values exactly across every shot.

Do you shoot both white background and creative colored background shots?

Absolutely. Most pet food brands order a mix: pure white background main images (required for Amazon main listing slots), plus colored background/creative flat lay shots for A+ content, social media, advertising and secondary listing images.

Are your images compliant with Amazon pet food category requirements?

All our e-commerce images meet Amazon, Shopify, Chewy, and major pet marketplace specifications, including correct dimensions, proper background requirements, sRGB color profile, file size limits, and no watermarks or unauthorized promotional text.

Can you add ingredient props or lifestyle elements to pet food shots?

Yes. We maintain a full prop library for pet food shoots including neutral surfaces, pet bowls, ingredient accents and pet-safe decor. We can also source custom props to match your brand identity on request.

Need professional photography for your pet food or treats?

We work with pet food brands, Amazon sellers, and DTC businesses to shoot treats, kibble, supplements, accessories, and more. Ship samples directly from your Chinese factory to our Guangzhou studio and get market-ready images in 3–5 days.
