The client sells Phillips hardtail mountain bikes and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to shoot the range outdoors for its online listings. The bikes come in 3 color stories: black with orange, white with orange, and black with lime green, all with front suspension and disc brakes. We shot 4 images on a quiet bridge road in Guangzhou: one low, road-level hero per colorway plus a second angle for the white bike, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. A bike needs road under it. A mountain bike on a white sweep looks like a diagram. On an empty bridge road with railings pulling toward the horizon, the same bike reads as a ride waiting to happen. That context is the entire point of shooting outdoors.

2. Three colorways, one road. The gallery flips between black-orange, white-orange, and black-lime. We locked the camera position and let the bikes rotate through the same spot on the road, so shoppers compare paint, not photography.

3. Harsh daylight, shiny paint. Midday sun on gloss frames blows highlights to white. We shot with the sun behind the bike, using the backlight for a rim glow on the frame and letting the road bounce soft light back onto the drivetrain side.

4. The drive side is the truth. Buyers of hardtails study the drivetrain. Every frame shows the drive side: chain, cassette, derailleur, and disc rotor in focus, because that is where the specification lives.

Our Approach

Road-Level Heroes

Each colorway gets a low, three-quarter hero from the drive side, shot near road level so the bike looms a little, the way bikes look in your head. The empty bridge stretches behind with railings converging, giving depth without clutter. The kickstand disappears into the frame angle, so the bike stands proud on its own.

Second Angle

The white-orange bike gets a fourth frame from a slightly higher three-quarter, showing cockpit, grips, and fork crown. This is the frame for buyers who zoom: brake hose routing, headset stack, and shifter pods all read clearly.

Retouching

All 4 frames get one bright, sunlit grade: frame colors matched to the physical bikes, haze lifted from the background, road stains cleaned, and drivetrain shadows opened so the components stay readable. Files went out at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, ready for Amazon listings and brand stores.

"Bikes sell the road, not the machine. Put the bike on empty asphalt with the horizon pulled long, and the buyer is already riding." June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 4-image outdoor set like this cost?

This set came to about $140 at $35 per image, location scouting included. Model-with-rider frames can be added at $45 per image, and 10 or more items get 10% off.

How long does the shoot take?

These 4 images were delivered in 5 business days. The road session itself runs one light window; the rest is selection and retouching.

Can outdoor frames go on Amazon?

Yes, in the secondary slots, A+ Content, and your brand store, delivered at 2000x2000px. Main images must be the bike alone on pure white, which we add at $12 per colorway from the studio.

Why shoot bikes outdoors instead of in the studio?

Because context sells. A mountain bike on a real road reads as a ride; on a white sweep it reads as a spec sheet. Most clients pair studio packshots with a small set of outdoor heroes.

Can you match my other bike photos later?

Yes. The location and light window stay on file, so new colorways or models slot into the same road and light for a consistent gallery, at the standard $12 or $35 per-image rates.

Can you shoot with riders?

Yes. Rider frames at the $45 model rate can be added on the same route, with casting and styling handled in-house.
