The client sells one-piece ceramic toilets and asked AIMI Visual Media in Guangzhou, China to shoot the line for its catalog: skirted floor-mounted models and a compact unit. We shot 9 images in our Guangzhou studio on the white sweep: side three-quarter, front, and profile angles with the lids closed and the chrome flush buttons catching the light, all under a full commercial license.

Photography Challenges

1. White porcelain on white is edge work. Glossy white ceramic against a white sweep merges fast. We separate with gradient control: the backdrop goes a half-stop darker than the porcelain's shadow side, so the tank's silhouette reads from edge shading alone, and the glaze keeps its highlights.

2. The skirt is the selling point. A skirted one-piece hides the trapway: that smooth base is why buyers pay. We shoot the low side-profile frames that show the uninterrupted line from tank to floor, because the skirt photographs as cleanliness you can see.

3. Gloss glaze doubles every light. Polished ceramic mirrors the softboxes. We position the sources so the tank carries one long controlled highlight along its edge, and flag the rest: the glaze proves itself with one clean band, not a grid of reflected rectangles.

4. A toilet is shot like architecture. It is tall, heavy, and symmetrical. We level the camera at mid-tank height and keep the verticals true, so the fixture reads as a designed object, not a snapshot of a bathroom.

Our Approach

The Catalog Angles

Side three-quarter for the hero, straight front for the range page, low side profile for the skirt. Each model rotates through the same floor marks, so the catalog compares designs, not camera positions.

The Compact Frame

The small unit gets a raised three-quarter view that shows its proportions honestly: compact is a feature for small bathrooms, and the frame says so without a tape measure.

Retouching

All 9 frames keep the porcelain honest: glaze highlights continuous, whites at 245-252, chrome buttons bright, and the floor shadow natural. Files went out at 2000x2000px sRGB in JPEG (quality 90) and WebP, ready for catalogs and Amazon listings.

"A toilet sells on its silhouette: gradient edges for the shape, one highlight band for the glaze, and a low profile for the skirt." June, Product Photography Team Lead

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 9-image set like this cost?

This set came to about $108 at $12 per white-background packshot. Styled scenes run $35 each, and 10 or more items get 10% off the whole order.

How long does the shoot take?

These 9 images were delivered in 5 business days. The sweep and floor marks stay fixed; models rotate through the same positions.

Are these ready for marketplace listings?

Yes. Each fixture stands alone on pure white at 2000x2000px, with the glaze and skirt readable at full zoom. Catalogs and wholesale decks use the same files.

How do you separate white porcelain from a white background?

By making the backdrop a half-stop darker than the porcelain's shadow side. The silhouette reads from edge shading alone, and the glaze keeps its highlights.

How do you show the skirted base?

With low side-profile frames. The uninterrupted line from tank to floor is the easy-clean story, and it photographs as cleanliness you can see.

Can you add more models later?

Yes. The floor marks and the light recipe stay in the studio, so new fixtures match this set exactly, at the standard $12 packshot rate.
